CFLs are $1 a piece now at places like Costco, and about $1.5 at Walmart. They saved me about 20% on my energy bill. They last 5-7x as long. I could give two licks about the environmental aspect of it. The amount of mercury in them is small compared to thermometers of old and they are saving me about $300 annually in energy savings plus a lot of hastle of not replacing bulbs as often.
Yes but it should be your choice if you want to risk being exposed to the “small” amount of mercury if you break one. The government shouldn’t force all of us to buy this crap if we don’t want to risk that exposure even if the risk is small ( I bet the liberal media says it’s small and they don’t lie huh).
If you want to buy it that’s ok. I just don’t approve of the government mandating all of us. We are losing freedom.
You should care.
Mercury is going to become the new Radon scam. Before you sell your house, or move out of your apartment, you are going to have to have your house or apartment inspected by a licensed inspector whose sole objective is to find mercury residue. Then you will be required to have it cleaned up by a qualified mercury clean-up crew. You won't be able to do it yourself, and you won't be able to sell your house without it.
It isn't there yet, but just look at the Radon scam, and how quickly that test, and the inevitable expensive remediation, has become standard in many parts of the country.
Radon cant hold a candle to the dangers of mercury, or so theyll say. You may very well wish that you had never heard of florescent lighting.
