WASHINGTON -- Congressional Democrats' yearlong campaign to bring the war in Iraq to an end concluded with a whimper Tuesday as the Senate failed again to pass a timeline for withdrawing U.S. troops from the conflict.
As they have all year, Senate Republicans prevented the move to set dates by which the president would have to begin and complete bringing American forces home.
And Democratic leaders gave in to demands from the Bush administration for more money for the war without any congressionally imposed restrictions. The latest $70 billion in war funding was incorporated into a $555-billion omnibus spending bill that will fund most of the federal government next year.

Harry and Nancy- PWN3D!!!
this is how piglosi and reid drain the swamp!!!!!
“...the president got exactly what he wanted - again.”
Amazing how this “stupid” President always runs rings around the pathetic Democrats, especially their clueless leaders. Truly, if this is the best leadership they can come up with, why would voters trust them to do better next time? They would never win another election if their voters were not brain dead, a result of drugs or a university “education.”
10,000 ear marks and hidden crap in this mountain of paper.
Harry, Nancy and TAXPAYERS - PWN3D!
$555 billion. Ungh.
Reid plus the rest of the incumbents, the same.
The only ones screwed are the current taxpayers and the coming generations that will have to clean up the mess (If outright socialism is not established yet).
$555 Billion / 300 million population
= Approx $1850 per person.
Merry Christmas from Uncle Sam
Yup. But we're supposed to believe it is some great victory for republicans.
We truely have the best congress that money can buy.
I can't believe Freepers buy this crap.
Believing the media again. I haven’t seen the bill. I don’t know that there is 9000 projects of zero value funded.
Given the scrutiny of the Iraq funding, it is unlikely that is lied about. This will fund triumphant victory. There are over 100,000 young men in Iraq right now who will not face a lifetime of knowing they were defeated, for whatever reason.
Rather, they will know they were victorious. History will place that same label on Bush, too.
