Madrid (18 December) - At the close of a five-day visit to Spain, Libyan leader Muammar Khadafi has said that his country wants to cooperate with Europe in the fight against terrorism. Until recently many European countries accused Libya of funding terrorism. However, the extradition of Libyan suspects in the 1988 bomb attack on a PanAm passenger plane over the Scottish town of Lockerbie and the scrapping of the Libyan nuclear programme have led to international rehabilitation. Last week, mr Khadafi was received with all honours by French President Nicolas Sarkozy, while this week Libya and Spain have concluded various contracts for increased economic cooperation. Spanish companies have landed won twelve billion euros worth of contracts for the supply of defence material and the construction of roads and power plants.
....amazing what a cruise missile down your chimney will do for your world outlook.

I remember when we did it and the French wouldn’t allow overflight of their territory, making the raid more dangerous with extra midair refuelings.
I suspect that it is sincere. I certainly hope so.
In fact one of the more under-reported victories coming out of the takedown of Afghanistan and Iraq has been the utter roll-over of Khaddafi. And it happened right away. He gave up several wanted terrorists that he had been hiding, and has cooperated with us in hunting down more.
It seems as he's gotten older the old fight is just not in him anymore. Frankly, I think he'd like to retire and play golf and live out his remaining days without worrying about any more 'splosions.
IIRC, his son is trying to bring Libya into the modern world, a long journey but the youngster is trying to take the first step. Malomar has, at this point, little interest in terrorists.
This is an offer that should not be dismissed out of hand. Many of our Islamo-fascist enemies, have made it clear to Qaddafi, they’d love to see him dead. They’ve even threatened him.
Don’t know about you, but i’d rather he was working with us, than against us...on a trust but verify basis. I’m sure he probably feels the same way. We may not love each other, but he’d likely be a...”productive” ally.
