At BAE visit, Hunter blasts GOP rival on link to China

NASHUA – Speaking to about 40 BAE Systems workers in what he called a "town hall meeting," Republican presidential candidate Duncan Hunter again blasted an opponent because his former company is doing business with a Chinese defense contractor.

Hunter, a U.S. congressman from California, called on Bain Capital, a company founded by former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, another GOP presidential contender, to drop its strategic partnership with Chinese defense contractor Huawei Technologies in a bid to buy U.S. defense contractor 3Com.

Hunter will also ask Romney to use his influence with Bain to end the proposed merger between Huawei and 3Com.

The congressman called the merger "unpatriotic" and a threat to national security.

During his address, which concluded with questions from BAE workers on their lunch breaks, Hunter touched on conservative themes that have become linchpins of his campaign.

"Immigration is the hottest issue in show business right now," Hunter said.

"Everybody in the world who has a TV set right now knows how to get into the U.S. illegally," Hunter said.

In response to questions, Hunter said he opposes creating a North American union for trade, similar to the European union.

"I have an idea for a North American union – if Canada and Mexico had supported us when we went to Iraq. They turned their back on us," Hunter said.

He also said he favored having corporations and businesses paying "next to nothing" in taxes to encourage companies to grow here and not move operation overseas.

Now, I love Hunter and hope his day will come, but attacking Romney for a company he is no longer involved with reminds me of Cheney/ Haliburton/ Democrats.

Hunter will also ask Romney to use his influence with Bain to end the proposed merger between Huawei and 3Com.

I wouldn't call that an attack really, just gentle encouragement to do the right thing. No longer involved really depends on what one considers involvement to be. He still has influence at Bain. If Romney were as smart as some like to portray him he would have already thanked Hunter for bringing it up and scored politically by simply speaking to Bain about the situation. The electorate would have thought, "Hey, here is a guy that can get things done and puts America first". Hunter gave him a real opportunity with this and he faltered.

3Com?
They used to make floppy disks. Now they make network routers. This isn’t exactly Lockheed Martin, folks.

Hunter is showing why he’s just not presidential material.

I think there are many who feel and think exactly as you do. Probably too many. Do you think Hunter would actually care if 3com was just about routers? I am glad he has his eyes wide open because it doesn’t seem many do. 3com has networking and data security contracts with the US Government. You don’t see a problem with the ChiComs having access to such a company?

It is like me selling a car to someone who starts to use the car to rob banks. Then the police come to me to ask me to try to use my influence to stop them.

That is the poice’s responsiblility, not mine.
Hunter is in Congress. He is in a better position to influence that company than Romney.

How dare you think taht he ChiComs, who are actively pursuing a policy of espionage through computer networks, might try to take advantage of hardware security protocols.

That's like saying Chinese toy in a babies mouth is worrisome.

With due respect, it is nothing like selling a car and someone using it to rob banks. It is more akin to your neighbor moving out and leaving the house to his children. Those children then decide to sell the house to your worst enemy. You might want to ask dad to talk to the kids, right?

The 3Com hardware and software portfolio integrates innovation, experience and expertise. To learn more about the companyÂ’s broad range of technology solutions, use these links:

Federal Government Policy To protect valuable network resources, maintain the publicÂ’s trust and pass rigorous security audits, the agency needs a security policy that: A Universal Security Platform
3Com Intrusion Prevention System (IPS) products, based on the industry-leading TippingPoint™ IPS engine, combine industry-leading capabilities that include intrusion suppression, virtual private network (VPN) support, a stateful packet inspection firewall, application bandwidth management, audio/video IP multicast routing and web content filtering. These universal IPS solutions detect and eradicate threats proactively, before they can cause damage.

The IPS platformÂ’s VPN capability extends protection to remote users accessing the network over the public infrastructure. Performance protection features ensure that IP telephony and other critical applications get the bandwidth they need to operate reliably and efficiently. The web content filter blocks access to inappropriate web sites that could compromise network security, reduce productivity or present possible legal problems. By implementing all these capabilities on one device, agencies can save equipment costs and make network management easier.

3Com also offers standalone VPN solutions for organizations of any size.

Insider Threats and Mobile Solutions
Often the most dangerous security threats come from within the network. These threats may include worms from traveling laptops and visitor/guest PCs, or installation of unapproved applications such as peer-to-peer file sharing that can carry spyware. A 3Com IPS device can automatically remove an infected PC from the network, or move the PC into a quarantine virtual LAN (VLAN) where it can be safely repaired before being allowed back on the network.

Another innovative 3Com technology called embedded firewalls extends firewall filtering and auditing capabilities to the desktop level. This technology, integrated on PCI and PC Cards, helps enforce the agencyÂ’s security policies on telecommuter laptops, VPN gateways, shared servers, web servers, contractor desktops and always-on broadband connections. It also provides resistance to unauthorized user modifications that could result in management headaches.

FIPS-Secure Wireless LANs
3Com and Fortress Technologies have joined together to offer enterprise-class Wi-Fi solutions that employ government-class security measures. These solutions have been thoroughly tested to comply with the Federal Information Processing Standards (FIPS), as well as NIST, NIAP and various military standards such as TIC certification. The wireless clients, access points, LAN infrastructure devices and management components work together to shield the entire network from the many external and internal threats to which Wi-Fi communications are susceptible.

Why do the Communist Chinese want to buy this company?

Not really.

Romnmey and the other globalist elites like Bush, Kennedy, etc, are getting rich from investments in lost American jobs, money sent to build up the Red Chinese war machine, contaminated food, etc.

Meanwhile, I’m sure these firms are contributing heavily to their war chests.

One of the reasons Hunter is having such a problem is he isn’t receving corporate dollars from these sources and his opponents are - or at lesat that’s my theory.

Mitt’s still pulling in 8 mil a year from the Bain Companies. They still employ friends and family.

Oddly, 3Com is headquartered in Belmont, Mass. Mitt’s, Mass home is also in Belmont. Small world.

“In response to questions, Hunter said he opposes creating a North American union for trade, similar to the European union.”

So much for the North American Union being a ‘conspiracy’. Duncan Hunter is the ONLY candidate speaking out against the NAU. The rest of ALL our candidates (except Tancredo) WILL, IMO, further the CFR/NAU agenda.

Huawei Technologies buying 3Com does not pose any threat to our national security. They want to buy them for the same reasons any company wants to acquire another.

The Chinese government probably wants to contract similar services from Huawei Technologies that the US government contracted from 3Com. The quickest and easiest way for them to develop the technology would be to acquire another company that already possesses it. However, this would not in any way enable the Chinese government to penetrate secure US Government networks. If 3Com made network security products that they could break into, then their products would obviously not be any good, and would fail in the task they were designed for.

Fred Thompson is not a “globalist.” He posses a free-market capitalism philosophy, something that protectionists like Duncan Hunter and the Democrat party do not.

No, Hunter is just being a protectionist.

Hunter takes his oath to preserve, protect and defend the American people seriously by putting America and Americans first. If that is protectionism then I'm all for it. The free trade attitude that permeates the GOP and Congress has caused us to be in the predicament with respect to illegal immigration, national security and China.
