Yes, pointing that out would be very mean.
The best we can do is keep everything as clean as possible, never leave food out unattended. This means covering all cooking pots. We try to make our home as unhospitable to the creatures as possible. And we try to kill them.
There is a rodent problem in every house here. We may get rid of them for a time, but new ones move in.
BTW, I really do live in Papua. It is just after 6 AM right now. The jungle stops at the fence.
Rodents or no, I am soooo envious-I am stuck in flat, largely woodless central Missouri, where the most exciting wildlife is an occasional coyote and it’s a GOOD weather day if the temperature breaks 32 F. :-( Stupid winter! Being a few yards from a jungle would be worth a rat now and then, IMO.
I think coyotes are kinda cool. But I don’t think I’d want to live where there is snow just for the wild dog.
We do have a pretty good variety of wild life here: a friend has a couscous living in their backyard (up a tree). We’ve seen cassowary, tree kangaroos, monitor lizards, a victoria crowned pidgeon, just to name a few. And a large variety of fish.
Tomorrow my kids (who are here for Christmas) and I will be going diving.
We’ll fight the rats.
Have you tried D-Con? It’s oats treated with strychnine (I think) and drives them to water, out of the house, before they die.
Years ago we brought D-con over and it worked! But we’re not really supposed to bring it across a border without tons of paperwork and permissions. Since 9/11 I don’t try that anymore. There is way too much change I’ll get caught.
There is a type of rat poison sold (there wasn’t a few years ago). The rats love it!
Jesu, that's a B.F.R!!!!
er.... change = chance
Did You Know?
Not only do rodent incisors keep growing, theyare very hard too. Rodent teeth are harder thanlead, aluminum, copper, and iron. Rats often gnawthrough metal pipes. After that, gnawing throughPVC pipes, plastic containers or cereal boxes iseasy.
Maybe it’s a wombat.
Maybe its a wombat.

or the offshoot of a wombat convention gone wild in the jungle. ;-)
LOL! Wombats Gone Wild!!
Oh rats! You beat me to it!
How very incisive.
