I was just thinking of him the other day. He and Jackson Browne were the best poet songwriters of their day. RIP Dan, thanks for the outstanding music.

Don’t forget Shel Silverstein! Dr. Hook wouldn’t have been the same without him.
I agree with you about Dan and Jackson Browne being the best poets in the business! My loyalty remained steadfast to them both all through these years- since the early 70s.
Dan’s music, tho, was what really got me through some hard times...some bad depressions... I would put on 2-3 LPs and let the music soothe my spirit! I can honestly say there is not one song of Dan’s that didn’t touch me! No other music before or since has touched me the way Dan’s music did and always will.
I was looking forward to my 12th concert to see Dan when it came out about him having advanced prostate cancer- and would cancel the tour that was planned. I was davastated then-and am heartbroken today to hear that it has finally ended for Dan... Dan, our wonderfully talented poet/musician, with the angel voice; who gave us all so much!
RIP- sweet Dan!
ugh, JB. Running on Empty. You Love the Thunder. I could probably sing them backwards, and toss in the feedback and audience hoots as well.
I recall a quote from the artist formerly known as Johnny Cougar, being interviewed on his then latest "album." Something about how they were in and out of the studio in less time than it takes Jackson Browne to tune his guitar.
Always got a kick out of that.
You neglected to mention James Taylor in your rundown of "troubadours."
