Romney Meets Russert (Romney utterly Clintonian)
Spectator Blog ^ | 12/16/2007 | Philip Klien

Posted on 12/16/2007 10:33:14 AM PST by JRochelle

I just got finished watching Mitt Romney's performance on "Meet the Press."

Snip..

--On guns, he may have gotten himself in trouble, in an attempt to diffuse the flip-flop label, by standing by his support for the Brady Bill and the 1994 assault weapons ban. He even said he would have signed an extension of the assault weapons ban when it expired in 2004. He also employed the odd phrase "weapons of unusual lethality" to describe the type of guns he would ban.

--On immigration, Romney was utterly Clintonian. He said that when in November 2005 he described the Bush/McCain approach to immigration as "reasonable" and "quite different" from amnesty, he wasn't endorsing the proposal, but just describing it. He hadn't formulated his own position on immigration at the time. That's right up there with Hillary Clinton saying in the debate that she didn't say she supported driver's licenses for illegal immigrants, but she just said that a proposal to do so "makes sense." Even if we were to get into the Christmas spirit and be extraordinarily generous by granting Romney that an elected official saying pending legislation is "reasonable" doesn't constitute support for the legislation, it still doesn't get him off the hook. His description of the proposal was that it was "quite different" from amnesty, and yet during this year he has ceaselessly leveled attacks on McCain by accusing him of supporting "amnesty."

Snip..

--On health care, I thought it was noteworthy that Romney hopes other states will follow the Massachusetts model so that insurance will be mandated nationwide (even if it isn't by the federal government). So philosophically, he still holds out hope that every American will be forced to purchase health insurance, but he just thinks that personal liberty should be violated on a state-by-state basis.

If you don’t like my posts, then don’t read them! I have changed it numerous times to reflect more of his ideas. Primarily, it is the same as “Bumping” the article to the top. You know, I don’t understand this “spamming” thing I’m being accused of...but I will obviously try to avoid every post with “calcowgirl” tags. How’s that?

FRED THOMPSON (true consistent Conservative Federalist) - NATIONAL SECURITY EXPERT (I’ll do whatever it takes to stop the bastards, include water-boarding) - 2ND AMENDMENT ADVOCATE (arm all legal citizens and criminals will become more hesitant) - SECURE AND SEAL THE BORDERS (don’t give them sanctuary anywhere, don’t hire them, don’t rent to them, don’t give them credit, don’t give them rights they don’t deserve, report all crimes committed by them, they will go home or we will deport them) - LAW AND ORDER (enforcement first and foremost with the laws currently on the books) - SOCIAL SECURITY REFORM (reform a program that can’t sustain itself and will bankrupt this nation) - DEFEAT THE DEMOCRAT (any fool they put up) – TAX SIMPLIFICATION (choice for the tax payer) - WON’T PUT UP WITH CRAP FROM THE MSM (including stupid questions by moderators) - PING!

“Only Romney can compete with the Democrat fund raising machine that is out raising the GOP by enormous proportions historically.”

Oh. You mean only Romney can buy the election — just stroke a check and ‘git ‘er done.’

Tell us what you really think.

I thought he did well and is definitely a candidate for my vote.

Wasn't it Begala who said of Clinton, "Stroke of the pen, law of the land, pretty cool!"

All this negative Romney ranting.

You guys must have been watching a different show than I did!

No, Timmie didn’t ask him democrat questions, like “what kind of a tree would you like to be, or what’s your favorite color” and Romney batted down all this superflous issue garbage quite well.

I think Romney came off particularily well, even in light of the Carville type questioning!

Gotta love those $50.00 abortions too. What a bargain. In other states it costs quite a bit more to murder your pre-born child. Thanks Mitt. What a guy.

I guess you're way behind on Mitt PR. Doncha know he said that everything he did as governor was "pro-life" & we've had FREEPERs left & right repeating this?

Petronski, Petronski, Petronski...re: your #38 submission...more & more FREEPERS are tardy on ever so tardy on keeping up with Mitt PR...

How can you possibly say these facts occurred, the wide open door in MA to the Planned Parenthood League in giving them access to you-and-me healthcare, the "we'll-protect-Planned-Parenthood-as-I-veto-these-other-sections-of-the-healthcare-bill..." when you yourself have read the "bald-face"...uh, the bald face liNes direct from Mitt himself that EVERYTHING he did as governor when it came to the pre-born was pro-life (yea-h...yeah-h...yeah-h...[that's the Massachusetts section of the aborted pre-born spirits in heaven giving their arousing cheer of Mitt)

Here's a bit Ms Charon omitted:

--On guns, he may have gotten himself in trouble, in an attempt to diffuse the flip-flop label, by standing by his support for the Brady Bill and the 1994 assault weapons ban. He even said he would have signed an extension of the assault weapons ban when it expired in 2004. I will NEVER vote for this person!

that was a very well oiled performance on MTP. I could feel the greese dripping off of every word he said. He’s got 10x the slick factor of everyone else running on both sides. There’s only 2 things that bug me......one, he’s a politician, and two, his lips are moving. Still, I think he scored big points today.

I think he has lost track of all his past positions, he can’t keep them straight.

Thanks. You reminded me of an old tag line, which I have brought out of retirement. (See tag).

I consider it good that you and your conspiracy theory buddies are breathlessly shrieking about lies and deception. That is good news for Romney supporters. If you thought he had done poorly with Russert and damaged his chances for winning, you would have been crowing about it and how it was all over for Romney.

As Conan "T" Barbarian once said when asked what is best in life: "To crush your enemies, to see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentations of their women." Based on the level of lamentation going on in this thread, life is very good for the Romney campaign right now.
