LVOV, December 16 (RIA Novosti) - The planet's oldest living person, Grigoriy Nestor, died at the age of 116 in the Lvov Region in western Ukraine on Sunday.
According to church documents and his passport, Nestor was born on March 15, 1891.
Nestor, who worked as a shepherd in the village, used to say that he had lived to an old age because he had never been married and had not had his nervous system "undermined on the marital front."
Nestor, who loved Ukrainian, Russian, German and Polish songs as he learnt them after living through the first and second world wars in his west Ukrainian village, actually never fell ill, never took any medicines and never used alcohol in large amounts.
According to Guinness World Records, today the world's oldest living person is 115-year-old Emiliano Mercado del Toro of Puerto Rico who assumed this title after Elizabeth Bolden, an African American woman, died at the age of 116 years and 118 days in 2006.
Someone should have told her what cold weather does to face lifts, botox and silicone injections.
Jeanne Calment was asked on one of her last birthdays, maybe the 120th or 121st, what she expected the rest of her life to be like. Her answer was "short."
The oldest people I have ever met in person have been 101--two of them, both women, one of whom is still alive.
the 120 year maximum is as we say “lav davka” (not exactly) In other words, it’s a round number.
Theres a common nutritional supplement that has been shown over and over in animals to increase their lifespan by a third.

I thought it was called “not eating so much”
WTG
Except for the interesting folk song knowledge and sheep savvy.......sound like a pretty dull 116 years. Then again, living there for 116 years without succumbing to the desire to kill yourself is a amazing accomplishment.

What! They only count years and days? I think they should get in down to at least hours and minutes. Parting gifts to the losers.
ahem...
The age of these people usually seems to be around 115. The average amount of time between "World's Oldest Person Dies" headlines is just the average life expectancy of a person that age, i.e. a few months.
Jeanne Calment seems to have been a bit of an outlier as she lived significantly beyond 115, so in her last few years there weren't any "World's Oldest Person Dies" headlines. Of course we never hear about the second, third, or fourth oldest person dying, but these people may all be around 115 also.
It might be more telling to determine the number of people of each age (110, 111, 112, etc.) in this very advanced age group.
Either Adam or Abel. Adam was created the longest ago, but Abel was the first human to die.
Before all of the smoking hysteria, my father was in a nursing home. I’d go over for cocktail & cigarette hour. The nurses used to ask me if I’d watch several others as well - they weren’t allowed to smoke unsupervised. There were 4 of them - my father was the “young one”; he was 90. The oldest was 102.
The nurses used to say that once you get to be that age, you should keep doing whatever it was that got you that far.
And, yes, that nursing home bans smoking now.
Who's the youngest person who's never been born yet?
“Theres a common nutritional supplement that has been shown over and over in animals to increase their lifespan by a third.”
Alpha lipoic acid?
I understand this ailment, three marital encounters have just about killed me.
RIP.
For a Russian or Ukrainian, a "large amount" of alcohol would be more than 3 tanker-truck loads a day.
