I live in Hawaii, where he grew up. Not only he’s close with the Dims here (particularly with Sen. Dan Inouye), there’s a talk that he was considered to be the Dims’ candidate for governorship against the Republican incumbent Linda Lingle in 2006. He declined, but I think mostly because Lingle is a very popular governor in this blue State.
