The left believes self-defense to be a more heinous crime than murder, especially if it results in harm or death to the aggressor. The reasoning I have peen presented with goes like this:

The murderer or other criminal is reacting to societal oppression and it is the only way he can compensate for the repression. The defender owes something to him because rationality gives the defender an unequal advantage in society that takes away from the criminal, that keeps him "down." The criminal's irrationality in renders his actions excusable and understandable. The defender is acting in a highly rational manner. He knows what he is doing. Therefore he is culpable because he is deliberately damaging or killing one of the downtrodden. That makes him evil and subject to punishment. The criminal just needs to be given proper nutrition and access to healthcare and wholesome recreation and a nice house.

It sounds farfetched as hell but I have had this argument with liberals more than once since the 60s including with my old bud who is a long-time biologist at UF with a very high IQ though his intelligence seems to be thoroughly blinkered.

Yep sounds very academic. I always thought that there was a stong element of "If the citizens can effectively defend themselves against unorganized criminals, then they wouldn't need as much government and might think about defending themselves against the biggest extortion organization of all." After all the USA grew out of revolution. :-)

One of our prestigious Inner City Colleges(now defunct because of embezzelement by its distinguished and learned leaders), actually had a Professor publish a paper that challenged the current education’s systematic use of logic as “Racist”. He said blacks were unfairly graded and judged in competence based upon the fact that blacks don’t use logic in their tests or society(?).It made the news with some local talk show hosts attacking it.Not a peep from any other institution or leader though.
