SELLING of illegal drugs is a felony, I don’t think drug USE is a felony in most states. In any event you refer only to illegal drug use, there are drugs prescribed by doctors that are more harmful than many illegal drugs, remember thalidomide? Drug addiction has been reported as being more common in the medical profession than any other. I have not called drug use a victimless crime but it takes a very misguided person to put drug USE and rape in the same category. Ask yourself in honesty whether you would rather have a son who is arrested for marijuana smoking or rape. If you say it is the same you are some kind of twisted. I can guarantee you that if every “pillar of the community” who ever used an illegal drug were to disappear we would have a lot worse world than we have now. Are you drug free? Stop and think now, that means no caffeine, no tobacco products, no alcohol, no prescription sleep aids, tranquilizers etc. Can you honestly say you have never used drugs? If you can you are a rare person indeed.
My brother has a son who since age 14 has been on drugs of any kind he could get. The seriousness of his addiction was hidden until he was in his early 20's. They thought he did some weed and drank a bit to much and were trying to help him in that. It got worse. He began stealing from his own family. He had his friend distract his own sister while he got her credit card number and charged a bunch of booze on it. He was caught dealing and jailed. He got out and went right back to it. Counseling and rehab (multiple) did not work. He was arrested again for possession, over 1000 needles in a car he was driving (not his). He was arrested in a motel room with Heroin under the mattress and he got off because no proof existed he KNEW it was there, despite testimony from another doper arrested at the time. A few months later he visited his sister and again stole her cc number and drank all her booze. All this time the boys mother was literally dying a slow death. He stole and lied from and to everyone. He is now in jail for the 2nd time and the world is better off for it. He has wrecked his family and they will never be the same. Mom, Dad, and Sister all have had their lives turned upside down. The parents fight almost constantly, tension rules the house (Dad wants to kill the kid for what he's done) His sister tried to do everything to help him, even offered to pay for rehab (she married very, very well) and all he did was break her heart. Three lives wrecked by one doper. A rapist will destroy a life, I don't deny that and I don't say it is any less then the drug addict but to say Rape is more destructive indicates you have no experience with the other tragedy of the type I have described here.
You truly have my sympathy for the situation with your nephew. I probably have a lot more experience with that sort of thing than you would imagine. My father never used an illegal drug in his life as far as I know but he was an alcoholic and I am still suffering for what I went through growing up as his son. Nonetheless, he was basically a good man who worked hard to support his family and even though my mother wanted to leave him when I was little he was her sole pillar of strength in the last years of her life and took care of her in sickness in a way that no one else could do, she often said that she didn’t know what she would have done without him in the last five years of her life. A situation such as you describe is extreme, for everyone like that there are hundreds of people who have smoked marijuana for years and not caused any problems for anyone, I truly know this from experience. I can assure you that drugs were the symptoms of your nephew’s problem and not the cause. And I still say that equating drug use and rape is absurd. You sound too much like the gun controllers who blame guns for shootings. Drugs don’t go out into the street and force people to do things. I have known of plenty of people who wreaked as much havoc as your nephew and probably even more without the benefit of illegal drugs.
And I have known plenty who used illegal drugs without doing any of those things you say he did.
Anyway, I wanted to clear up what I said about rape victims and drug addicts being similarly effected.
I was NOT equating a victim of rape with an addicted individual.

I know that! I have a hard time trying to figure out just what you were TRYING to do but what you were DOING was equating a rapist with a casual drug user. You may want to go back and reread your posts and think about how they come across. The mere fact that you know what it is you are trying to say does not automatically mean that you are communicating in such a way that the reader can know what you are trying to say.
I’ve heard a lot about Billy’s drug use. Has anyone asked Hillary the “D” question? Do we have any past info on her “experimenting with” (using) drugs?
