Well, this is it. Suddenly, amazingly, by the Grace of God - Kayleigh LouAnn is to be born tomorrow.
I've learned that if you want to make God laugh, tell him your plans. When my wife and I first discussed marriage, we had decided no more children. I have a fourteen year old daughter by a previous marriage, and she felt that if she had been meant to have a child, she would have done so by this time.
God chuckled.
My wife, whom God blessed me with, was worried I'd be upset. Be upset? Hardly. I've had to explain to folks that I'm not the type that jumps up and down and screams, but I'm not upset. I'm excited - very excited.
Her original due date was December 9, 2007. As that date approached, my wife showed no signs of being ready to deliver. So today, they ran another ultrasound on her. They discovered that the level of amniotic fluid was very low, so they decided to run a stress test on the baby.
My wife calls me with about 20 minutes left in my work day, while I had an agent on the phone with me. She's tells me this over a cell phone that is busy trying to break up due to the shielding in the facility I work in. The call I was on goes on hold - then gets dispatched as quickly as I can.
See - if Kayleigh is in distress, they're going to admit her immediately for observation. If everything is ok, they'll release her. The next 15 minutes pass in a matter of hours until I get the call back that confirms that there is no stress on the baby, and that we have an appointment for inducement at 0500 tomorrow (Thursday) morning.
She was convinced that the doctors were off by several weeks on the due date. It has flucuated from 12/15/2007 all the way up to 01/15/2008. Now, suddenly, the due date is 12/13/2007. Mr. Calm Cool and Collected is suddenly shaking in his boots. I'm tired as hell right now, and I know that if I were to lay my head down, I'd be out in less than three minutes, but I'm also aware that I'd be awake again in about ten.
So now I'm here - rambling on and trying to type the stress out. Bear with me, please.
It won't be a live blogged birth, but I'll be back later to update how everything went, and hopefully to post a couple pictures.
Our honor to do so. Aunties and Uncles waiting!
Merry Christmas Bob,,to you and your Family
