Ohio Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D) is being excluded from this weeks Iowa presidential debate because he has not rented office space in the Hawkeye State, his campaign said Wednesday.
The Des Moines Register informed the campaign that Kucinich is not invited because the newspaper determined that a person working out of his home did not meet our criteria for a campaign office and full-time paid staff in Iowa, the campaign said.
Kucinich, who is running his second consecutive presidential campaign but is doing poorly in national polls, has received strong support in online surveys from liberal groups such as Democracy for America. The Ohio lawmakers anti-war campaign resonates with parts of the Democratic base even though that support has not boosted Kucinich from the lower tier of candidates.
The campaign blasted the decision to exclude the lawmaker from the debate.
The Iowa caucuses have been portrayed as having national implications, and if the Register has decided to use hair-splitting technicalities to exclude the leading voice of the Democratic wing of the Democratic Party, then the entire process is suspect, the campaign said in a statement about the arbitrary and unreasonable exclusion.
The campaign claims that Kucinich has also been barred from public appearances by the Iowa Democratic Party, Iowa Public Television, and well-funded political interests
With nearly twenty candidates running for the nominations of the two major parties, the format of the debates have been an issue all year long.
Some of the lower-tier candidates have repeatedly complained that they are not being asked as many questions as the frontrunners. Meantime, some of the White House hopefuls have sought to limit the crowd. In July, former Sen. John Edwards (D-N.C.) was overheard discussing the issue with Democratic frontrunner Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (N.Y.).
This guy is as far from “democracy” as ethics is to bill clinton.
PING (for later viewing of pictures of his wife)
Mr. K is my favorite Democrat. I pray for multiple lightning strikes to give Dennis the Nomination.
If they do, they are wrong. It is a representative republic.
Ha HA
I don’t think that Ron Paul was the Republican’s Kucinich.
In fact I think its opposite. Kooky is the Democrats far left voice. So in order for Paul fill Kooky’s spot for the Republicans, Paul would have to be the far right voice....which he is not.
HOWEVER.....if you are saying that they are both the raving lunatics of the parties, tolerated by the grownups just to be fair, then yes, I agree.
...this may keep me from the ring?
Kuncinich didn’t get a hotel room for the DNCC in Boston. The deadbeat actually crashed at the WRKO studios in Allston.
the leading voice of the Democratic wing of the Democratic PartyROTFLMAO!
Nonsense. Ron Paul and Dennis have quite different views. Not on defending America from the Jihadists they don't. They're both down on their knees, side by side, liking Jihadist boots.
Oh, yeah, Shirley McLane's friend. The guy who married his granddaughter's best friend.
Perhaps more truth than you knew at the time. Check out this post: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1938491/posts?page=24#24.
But the Des Moines Register added Keyes to the GOP debate today even though he doesn’t meet their criteria and hasn’t been in any earlier debates this year! The pathetic moderator for the GOP debate was the Register’s editor and she’s likely the one responsible for both decisions. Frank Lunz asked his panel for a one word description of her performance. None found the corrrect answer, “Hillary.”
I knew someone would have to say it. Good 'ol FR.
The Dems eating their own again.
Its funny that the media blames it on the media.
He does nothing that even resembles being productive. He simply stirs up people with accusations, makes promises he never keeps, and then blames everything on someone else.
The one thing he is very good at is finding ways to get the press to cover his rants so he can get his voice heard and build name recognition.
This will probably serve his goals better than actually taking part in the debate, though it would probably be ideal for him if they relent and allow him to participate after bringing attention to him.
They want it to be one.
What is Sean Penn going to do about this?
