OK, I get it now. In the summer the artic ice melts. In the winter it freezes. For those suggesting we replace oil with solar power, it would be wise to also remind them that it gets brighter in the daytime and darker in the evenings.

Once as much as 15% of the ice in a given area melts it is no longer termed "sea ice". That, instead, is defined as "open water".
Remember, this is all about 15% ~ not ICE.
