Technically you are right but it is still inextrictably tied to Islam. The sad part is there is apparently no central authority in Islam who can state the proper form of worship or cultural practices for Muslims. Nor do Muslims have a process of ex-communication to communicate to others that certain things aren’t accepted by the faith. I don’t blame Islam directly but I do consider it complicit.
Yes and No. Shi-ites are more centralized and do have a system with a supreme leader at the top. (see Iran) Sunnies do not.
The "process" for ex-communication is, for all intents and purproses, a hit. Its death, this obviously causes alot of problems.
Sunnies are supposed go to their clerics (or imans) for religious advice and for clarifications, Libya is having a huge problem (though the country is quite secular compared to other islamic countries) with the various opinions of clerics that issue proclamations (or fatwah's) that often contradict each other.
Simply put, but its very nature, Islam is a violent religion, I know several muslims who get quite offended when their religion is referred to as a "religion of peace" as they believe the term implies pacifism, which is strictly barred by the religion, and also since islam mean submission (as in submission to god), they really hate the whole "RofP" label.
FWIW, they also do not believe the nation of islam is true islam and find them to be a bastardization.
