After the 3rd Annual TexasCowboy Memorial Shoot we are headed to AZ
to meet up with more FReepers for a week long vacation starting May 4th 2008.
Come along and join us for a great time!
Any suggestions for places to visit are welcome.
(If anyone would like to be added or removed from the ping list, let me know)
Ping!
Just so that we stay organized. ; >)
This looks like it's gonna be a blast!
I'm looking forward to this also!
Head southwest out of Tucson on Hgwy #86 to Three Points about 13 miles ). Go south at Three Points on Rt.# 286 to Sasabe.( on the border, 45 miles )
This is where the Gov’t is building the new border fence and Boeing’s ‘virtual fence”.
Any hitch hikers on Rt# 286 will be illegal aliens.
Call Border patrol. They will be there in less than 10 minutes.
I would suggest taking highway 89A out of Prescott on the way to Sedona and stopping for a look around Jerome. It is an old mining town with a good museum. The roads are so winding that some houses have an upstairs access and a downstairs access on segments of the same road.
Rock Springs is about 25 minutes north of Phoenix on I-17. Some people swear by the biscuits and gravy. I like the barbeque pork. Don’t miss the pies. They have a Jack Daniel’s Pecan pie that is great. They also do meringue pies, but the pie lady used to just do the meringues on the weekend and they don’t keep. If you have a cooler, you can take a pie with you.
In Prescott there is a microbrewery directly across the street from the courthouse on the north side. All the food is good and the brews are unique. Try the “bangers and mash” with a good porter. If you have a cooler, you can take 1/2 kegs of beer with you.
Staying in Sedona can be kind of expensive. You might try some of the B&B’s on 89A going north out of town. You can find information on them from AAA and Google Earth. We are staying up there between Christmas and New Years. We found a B&B in town with rooms on the creek. Oak Creek Canyon is on 89A going north out of Sedona. Go at least as far as Slide Rock State Park. It is a very pretty canyon. There are trails up to the top if you feel like a stout hike.
BTW In May the AZ Diamondbacks will be holding court in their relatively new stadium. Come and see the only MLB stadium with a swimming pool at the outfield fence! :)
Thanks! We are staying in Sedona for a night, maybe two, Mostly in Scottsdale.
I’ll look into your suggestions.
Hope you have a great Christmas there. Please post some pics!
While in Sedona, you might want to eat at Javelina Cantina or Joey Bistro. They also have a great helicopter tour there. Enjoy.
You gotta love the bikini babes in the field at the BOB!

Great advice - check the link, Rock Springs Cafe is definitely on the itinerary, as are Prescott and Sedona. And of course, you can’t visit Arizona and not see the Grand Canyon.
Trouble is, there’s just way too much to see and do to try to get to it all in one week!
IMHO, this is the best place to eat in Sedona. I always have good food and service there - and the view is outstanding.
Yark! I forgot. Thanks Hijinx
Thanks Yorkie!
Food and view look great!
I was looking at the GCR website, Has it been decided which class we are going yet?
I would like to show the missus what is going on.
Thanks! found one good link

Club class. Some of the route is a bit boring, so having access to a wet bar will help!
