Republican presidential hopeful Mike Huckabee, an ordained Southern Baptist minister, asks in an upcoming article, "Don't Mormons believe that Jesus and the devil are brothers?"
The article, to be published in Sunday's New York Times Magazine, says Huckabee asked the question after saying he believes Mormonism is a religion but doesn't know much about it. His rival Mitt Romney, the former Massachusetts governor, is a member of the Mormon church, which is known officially as the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
The authoritative Encyclopedia of Mormonism, published in 1992, does not refer to Jesus and Satan as brothers. It speaks of Jesus as the son of God and of Satan as a fallen angel, which is a Biblical account.
A spokeswoman for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints said Huckabee's question is usually raised by those who wish to smear the Mormon faith rather than clarify doctrine.
"We believe, as other Christians believe and as Paul wrote, that God is the father of all," said the spokeswoman, Kim Farah. "That means that all beings were created by God and are his spirit children. Christ, on the other hand, was the only begotten in the flesh and we worship him as the son of God and the savior of mankind. Satan is the exact opposite of who Christ is and what he stands for."
Romney did not respond to a request for comment.
Earlier this month in Iowa, Huckabee wouldn't say whether he thought Mormonism rival Romney's religion was a cult.
"I'm just not going to go off into evaluating other people's doctrines and faiths. I think that is absolutely not a role for a president," the former Arkansas governor said.

Your post doesn’t make sense.
Yeah, it is kinda funny. Anyone can pull up my posts. Smart freepers know how. You won’t find a personal attack in any of them.
I posts scriptures from lds.org, and quotes from LDS publications, and I am accused of Jihad. It’s only their own doctrine. Why is it so embarrassing?
BTW...protocol is that if you mention a poster, you are to PING them. No such PING was given to several of us in #399.
I agree with you. I’m waiting to hear the answer from Romney. I want to know exactly what Mormons believe. I don’t know a lot about Mormonism.
I don’t like quoting democrats in a favorable way but here goes:
“I don’t give ‘em hell, I tell the truth and they think it’s hell”. H.S.T.
I doubt if you can sell that one.
Help me out here, what other Christian religions do not allow the cross in their churched or to be worn?
Did I post to you?
***Yes, if you posted in public. Private postings are in freepmail.

No, THE question is: Who is Jesus? Mormonism’s take on the Trinity is so out of line with the teachings of the Catholic Church that we do not recognize their baptisms. But would the other candidates say as much as Romney said? Sadly I have my doubts about the “Catholic” candidates. Would they accept literally the ancient Creeds? If they are modernists, they might say yes but fudge once they came under cross-examination.
“I dont know whether the LDS church still teaches this, however.”

I disagree. I don’t think it’s ridiculous at all, I just don’t think that the particulars of a religious belief are important to the decision of whether they are suited towards having the job of President.
In his lust for power, Huckabee has lost sight of the lovingkindness of Yah'shua.
“BTW...protocol is that if you mention a poster, you are to PING them. No such PING was given to several of us in #399.”
apolgies, I posted in haste.
“If it is that bad, why are you so obsessed with it. Dont you have something more important to do? It seems you are the one that has lost your way.”
well broncobully, you’ve been here since August and I’ve been here since 1998, so I try to obsess over those things which are important to me. 8 years of potential chaos under Mitt seems rather important.
From "Roughing It" Chapter XVI
All men have heard of the Mormon Bible, but few except the "elect" have seen it, or, at least, taken the trouble to read it. I brought away a copy from Salt Lake. The book is a curiosity to me, it is such a pretentious affair, and yet so "slow," so sleepy; such an insipid mess of inspiration. It is chloroform in print. If Joseph Smith composed this book, the act was a miracle--keeping awake while he did it was, at any rate. If he, according to tradition, merely translated it from certain ancient and mysteriously-engraved plates of copper, which he declares he found under a stone, in an out-of-the-way locality, the work of translating was equally a miracle, for the same reason.
The book seems to be merely a prosy detail of imaginary history, with the Old Testament for a model; followed by a tedious plagiarism of the New Testament. The author labored to give his words and phrases the quaint, old-fashioned sound and structure of our King James's translation of the Scriptures; and the result is a mongrel--half modern glibness, and half ancient simplicity and gravity. The latter is awkward and constrained; the former natural, but grotesque by the contrast. Whenever he found his speech growing too modern--which was about every sentence or two--he ladled in a few such Scriptural phrases as "exceeding sore," "and it came to pass," etc., and made things satisfactory again. "And it came to pass" was his pet. If he had left that out, his Bible would have been only a pamphlet.
..............................................
The Mormon Bible is rather stupid and tiresome to read, but there is nothing vicious in its teachings. Its code of morals is unobjectionable- -it is "smouched" [Milton] from the New Testament and no credit given.
End of Chapter.
You know when I became so disgusted with a certain kind of post and started responding.
You have no knowledge about how long I have been following FR.
resty said she wasn’t embarrassed, and that I should quick (sp) making it personal.
So how was I making it personal when I wasn’t posting to her? That was my point. I recognize that it is indeed posted on a public forum.
This helped me...
We are made in God’s image. We have a mind, a body, a spirit. We cannot separate any of these from the others and still function properly as one, but God could. Doesn’t answer the “how,” but I think this is possible for God.
Hey, I have to do SOMETHING to make this thread get to 1200 posts... ;-)

While Mormons do actually believe that (well, not everyday Mormons....it is in church documents), Huck is just an idiot for saying something like that.
