Huckabee Support Increasing By 2-To-1 Margin; Most Trustworthy On Border Security
MAXWELL, Iowa--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The nation's largest statistically valid survey of grassroots conservatives has found that Mike Huckabee now enjoys a 2-to-1 margin of support over his nearest competitora dramatic shift from a similar poll conducted in September.
When asked whom they would vote for if the Republican primary were held today, 33% of grassroots conservatives preferred Huckabeean increase from just 7% in the September Grassfire poll. Fred Thompson, who led Grassfire's May and September polls by wide margins, finished secondlosing nearly half his support (15% down from 28% in September). Grassfire.org conducted the survey December 1-9, 2007 of all active Grassfire.org team members. Over 67,000 participated and the survey has a margin of error of less than 1% at a 99% confidence level for the Grassfire.org audience.
Among grassroots conservatives, Huckabee is seeing a remarkable surge, said Steve Elliott, President of Grassfire.org. Elliott added that grassroots conservatives find Hucakbee among the most trustworthy on the issue of stopping illegal immigrationbarely eclipsed by immigration stalwart Tom Tancredo 18.9% to 18.4%. They trust Mike Huckabee to secure our borders, says Elliott.
Additionally, 25% of grassroots conservatives now think Huckabee will win the nominationup from just 2% in September. And among the major Republican candidates, Huckabee is the least likely to spark an exodus if he wins. All of these factors indicate Huckabees surge may have staying power and his upside potential is only escalating, says Elliott.
Other findings:
* Nine of Ten grassroots conservatives list Border Security among their top issues.
* Giuliani still expected to win: Conservatives continue to expect Giuliani to win the nomination.
* Giuliani most likely to spark exodus if he faces Clinton, Huckabee least likely.
* Thompson biggest loser since September, but losses not likely done.
* Romney, Giuliani, McCain least trustworthy on immigration.
Social conservatives are rallying around a candidate they consider one of their own despite his liberal tenancies on other issues.
This what happens in race that has been dominated by liberal phonies and uninspiring candidates.
Are Evangelicals really that stupid?
What is stupid about supporting a man that is ardently pro-life, opposes the homosexual agenda, supports abstinence teaching, backs homeschooling and would fight against the attempt to cleanse religion from public places? It makes perfect sense if those issues are most important to a person and a more conservative candidate isn't touting those issues.
It’s not all conservatives...perhaps this explains his rise in the polls??

I wouldn’t call it stupid. It’s the same problem Bush has, in another form. You can be trusting in your private life, and always think the best of people until they prove otherwise, and in many ways that is a virtue.
But in public life you have a duty to the common good, which means you should be less trusting, less nice, less ready to turn the other cheek.
I gotta agree with you. The two worst president's in my lifetime have been GW Bush and Jimmy Carter. I don't think the country can survive another born-again "Christian" in The Oval Office.
I think history will treat him VERY kindly. He's been a visionary and a leader in the war against the Jihad. It's a life or death struggle until the end.
If anything he has not been aggressive enough.
Bush would have been a great President if he'd stuck to the war on terror. Sadly, with his attempts to remake the US to meet Daddy's globalist fantasies, he is condemning our children and our grandchildren to peonage and third world status; and with his de facto surrender to Mexico, he ensures the US will break up into ethnic diaspora.
In short, while he saved us from an enemy from without, as the enemy within he's betrayed us to the financial interests of Wall Street. (I guess that good "Christian" that he is, his Bible doesn't contain the verse about what profit does a man attain if he gains the whole world and loses his eternal soul.)
