Huckabee Support Increasing By 2-To-1 Margin; Most Trustworthy On Border Security
MAXWELL, Iowa--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The nation's largest statistically valid survey of grassroots conservatives has found that Mike Huckabee now enjoys a 2-to-1 margin of support over his nearest competitora dramatic shift from a similar poll conducted in September.
When asked whom they would vote for if the Republican primary were held today, 33% of grassroots conservatives preferred Huckabeean increase from just 7% in the September Grassfire poll. Fred Thompson, who led Grassfire's May and September polls by wide margins, finished secondlosing nearly half his support (15% down from 28% in September). Grassfire.org conducted the survey December 1-9, 2007 of all active Grassfire.org team members. Over 67,000 participated and the survey has a margin of error of less than 1% at a 99% confidence level for the Grassfire.org audience.
Among grassroots conservatives, Huckabee is seeing a remarkable surge, said Steve Elliott, President of Grassfire.org. Elliott added that grassroots conservatives find Hucakbee among the most trustworthy on the issue of stopping illegal immigrationbarely eclipsed by immigration stalwart Tom Tancredo 18.9% to 18.4%. They trust Mike Huckabee to secure our borders, says Elliott.
Additionally, 25% of grassroots conservatives now think Huckabee will win the nominationup from just 2% in September. And among the major Republican candidates, Huckabee is the least likely to spark an exodus if he wins. All of these factors indicate Huckabees surge may have staying power and his upside potential is only escalating, says Elliott.
Other findings:
* Nine of Ten grassroots conservatives list Border Security among their top issues.
* Giuliani still expected to win: Conservatives continue to expect Giuliani to win the nomination.
* Giuliani most likely to spark exodus if he faces Clinton, Huckabee least likely.
* Thompson biggest loser since September, but losses not likely done.
* Romney, Giuliani, McCain least trustworthy on immigration.
The preacher versus the screecher.
Yes, all 5 of the conservatives that answered the phone and talked to a poll taker.
Dumb, dumb, dumb. I think this is mostly Evangelicals. I hope they wake up, take a second look, and smell the roses before it’s too late.
Hillary is gloating.
A quick glance at the Grassfire.org front page explains why:

Sen. Brownback Introduces Ultrasound Informed Consent Act
Quite and interesting mix: Nanny-state and border control.
And just how do they figure that? How about methodology or success rate?
Yep, these Grassroots Conservatives don’t seem to understand what an Open Border disater the Huckster will be....WTH is wrong here?

excuse me while I throw up
If this guy gets the nomination, Ill be voting Libertarian from this election till the day I die.
Ahh..not me, although I am starting to believe we are DOOMED!!!!
My take on it, and I hope I won’t be misinterpreted, is that sometimes Evangelicals can be too trusting and politically naive.
In the long run, they will come around and see Huckabee for what he is. But it might be too late. Let’s hope not.
It’s a good quality, in a way. If a preacher says “I have seen the light and I stand up for Jesus,” they believe him, until the fruits of his actions prove otherwise. But such trust isn’t a good idea when evaluating someone for public office.
You want to give people the benefit of the doubt, ordinarily. But not if your daughter asks if she should marry them, or if they are running for president. In such cases you can’t afford to correct a mistake after the knot has been tied.
Damned good question...
Looks like a sizable faction is taking the Hucka-bait. They don’t call it the Stupid Party for nothing, apparently.
It’s the God will use this man and save us from all evil and we won’t have to do any thinking vote.....

DEMS HOLD FIRE ON HUCKABEE; SEE 'EASY KILL' IN GENERAL ELECTION

Democrat party officials are avoiding any and all criticism of Republican presidential contender Mike Huckabee, insiders reveal.
The Democratic National Committee has told staffers to hold all fire, until he secures the party's nomination.
The directive has come down from the highest levels within the party, according to a top source.
Within the DNC, Huckabee is known as the "glass jaw -- and they're just waiting to break it."
In the last three weeks since Huckabee's surge kicked in, the DNC hasn't released a single press release criticizing his rising candidacy.
The last DNC press release critical of Huckabee appeared back on March 2nd.
[DNC Press Release Attack Summary:
Governor Mitt Romney (R-MA) 37% (99 press releases)
Mayor Rudy Giuliani (R-NY) 28% (74)
Senator John McCain (R-AZ) 24% (64)
Senator Fred Thompson (R-TN) 8% (20)
Governor Mike Huckabee 2% (4)]
In fact, as the story broke over the weekend that Huckabee said he wanted to isolate AIDS patients back in 1992, the DNC ignored the opportunity to slam the candidate from the left.
"He'll easily be their McGovern, an easy kill," mocked one senior Democrat operative Tuesday morning from Washington.
"His letting out murderers because they shout 'Jesus', his wanting to put 300,000 AIDS patients and Magic Johnson into isolation, ain't even scratching the surface of what we've got on him."
The discipline the Democrats have shown in not engaging Huckabee has earned the praise of one former Republican Party official:
"The Democrats are doing a much better job restraining themselves than the GOP did in 2003 when Howard Dean looked like he was on the brink of winning the nomination."
A close friend to Huckabee explains: "Look, Mike is Hillary Clinton's worst nightmare. They should be squirming."
Developing...
It seems as though “grassroots conservatives” are easily taken in.
I'd be hard-pressed to vote for anyone but the GOP nominee...but if Huck gets it I honestly believe that Hillary would be the better choice.
yuk.
What exactly is going on here? You would think that most conservatives would be put off by soft-on-illegals, soft-on-crime, big spender Huckabee.
