Her ambition to have folks NOT SHOOT BACK has to have a motive, so who's the big criminal in her life.

She is protecting her religiously held world view. To accept the obvious proof that her view is flawed would be like learning that whales live in trees. It would turn her belief system upside down and cause her to doubt all that she KNOWS to be true.
I will take a shot at this. Most likely, it is the State. Modern Liberals tend to be atheists, or at least, agnostics. Many feel a need for a greater power in their life, and they grant this to the State. Government becomes their god. Government decides what is right and wrong. Government protects and feeds them.
Guns in the hands of individuals, in fact, the very notion that individual power is a check on Government, is essentially sacrilege to their very idea of an all powerful Government. It offends them and scares them. If something can hold the Government in check, the Government might not be able to protect, feed, and care for them.
Of course, if they can make the Government do things, then that makes them god-like themselves.
