Land lines are a waste of money. $50+ dollars for a dial tone + all the taxes just so a telemarketer can call and interupt my dinner.

Not to mention all the hassles involved in changing your number when you move. Retaining our cell phone numbers when we moved to a different state was extremely convenient.

It keeps you local to family.

Although my new job required me to get a Maryland number when I relocated from Ohio so it’s a moot point for me.

My wife still has a MA cell number though and she moved from there several years ago.
