The Anoka County attorney is sending the case of Martin Treptow, accused of shooting a Robbinsdale undercover police officer, to a grand jury this week.
Treptow is accused of shooting the undercover officer in a roadside incident on June 7, 2007. Treptow said the shooting was out of self-defense, claiming the officer was the first to point his weapon.
We're about three feet away from each other and he's pointing the gun at my wife, so it was a tough situation and I couldn't drive away at that particular moment and how to defend my family, Treptow said.
The officer claims the shooting was out of road rage. The officer was undercover and in plain clothes. Treptow says the man never identified himself as a police officer and was the first to point his weapon.
Treptow fired a couple rounds into the car, hitting the officer in his legs. Treptow then drove to a gas station where he called 911.
Treptow is a former security guard and had a permit to carry a weapon.

Ping..
Aren’t cops, even undercover ones, supposed to identify themselves as police when they pull out their guns and point them at you?
That’s the debate, here. I’m looking for the original thread, which has a lot more details. The LEO was working undercover, out of his jurisdiction, relatively new to his job....etc...etc...
Okay so how about this, I’m not a LEO, I walk up and say, I’m a cop, then I point a sidearm at your kids head and tell tou to give me your ID...
Legit or not...
I’d expect to I’d get myself shot actually...
Yes, just as if they are breaking speeding laws while driving their lights should be flashing as to warn the public.
One isn't a cop until one identifies themselves as a cop.
The problem here, is an undercover (relative rookie) cop allowing himself to get involved in what appears to be a road rage situation. Good cops, especially undercovers, avoid confrontations.
However, as a permit holder, I, along with my fellow carry permit holders, also avoid these sorts of dust ups. It’s just good common sense.
A commodity hard to find anymore.
All cops should be in uniform and driving marked vehicles (yes, I’m serious).
I’m ok with undercovers. If they behave themselves. Some are a bit big-headed.
And therein lies the problem, after the fact, how do you know they behaved themselves?
