LK, you, too, are a retired chaplain.

Do you share my assessment of Army “bean counters?”

Absolutely! I have heard some real strange things from my guys who are still in. 15 month tours, and quick turnarounds are really weighing heavily on the young guys that are considering careers. And right now it is not looking good for longevity.

I admittedly don’t know much about this. But to even hear the term “break” doesn’t seem to bode well. In fact, it really alarms me. I read that the suicide rate for ex-military is at a 26 year high point. Also, many troops are young. New in their relationships. These guys and gals go off to war thinking all is fine and dandy at home, but are gone too long and return only to find things have changed. Shorter tours seems to me to be the better move. For the continued well-being of all.

I think shorter tours keep people sharper, more focused.

And I think you are being modest. I think you KNOW shorter tours keep people sharper, more focused.

And if it comes down to doing the right thing, compared to the cheap thing, in my experience the cheap thing costs me more in the long run.

LOL!

No one will ever accuse you of beating around the bush!

If you think about it, 6 mos tours, since they’ll come around more often, will keep the experience level in your unit higher.

And just as importantly, it will keep the "experience" level in your personal life higher. One hand feeds the other...
