I would love to know what kind of provocation the parents consider justification for nine teenagers, most of them male, to engage in a near-fatal attack on one young woman. Not that I believe that such provocation occurred.
Exactly why there shouldn't be "special" prosecutions of "hate crimes." All attacks like these are HATEFUL and should be PROSECUTED EQUALLY HARSHLY.

Consequently, they come to believe that the most unforgiveable crime one human being can perpetrate on another is to "disrespect" them in some way, shape or form. And, according to this mindset, even the smallest slight is perceived as a major incident. How dare this person not tell me I'm wonderful in every way? How dare this person tell me I'm wrong!
Add to that the Liberal indoctrination of minorities that they are oppressed and have no chance of succeeding in a society that is stacked against them from the ground up and you have a very explosive mix of anger, despair and unrealistic expectations. They have indoctrinated these children into seeing themselves as perpetual victims and they have led these kids to believe that anything they say or do is perfectly OK so long as they feel good about it. You're a wonderful human being and everyone is out to get you and if you feel like striking out at those who oppress you, then who are we to judge? That is a recipe for societal chaos. Thanks Libs. Well be cleaning up this mess for generations to come.

I am a firm believer that all women should adapt their lives so that when out in public, they *always* carry a short knife in easy access. And if menaced by a male, they should nick him with it. This is true around the world and in all cultures.
The standard in the US is that a blade less than 3 inches in length is legal for about anyone to carry. And while it is difficult in ordinary circumstances to kill a person with such a knife, it is easy to give them a noteworthy nick with one.
Most men not terribly drunk, will immediately withdraw if nicked with a knife. It will not provoke further aggression, it will cause them to retreat and be interested only in their injury.
In such a case, the overwhelming odds are that anyone in authority will respect that the woman was defending herself.
So there is no reason at all for women not to do this. It would prevent any number of attacks on women by aggressive men, and once a certain threshold of women start carrying short knives, there will be an overall improvement of male behavior, for the simple reason that men will not know which females are “carrying”, so no longer feel free to harass or assault women.
For women to carry short knives, and to advocate to other women and girls that they do the same, in no way diminishes them or comes across as unfeminine. The truth is that women should make it a practice to socially insist that other women carry knives as well, that it is “asocial” to NOT carry a knife. So much so that if one of her friends is without a knife in public, a woman should loan or give her an extra short knife, just so that she would not be without.
Imagine the impact in the world if women did this. Not just American women, but Muslim women, Hindu women, African women, etc. It would change the world.
Execute them. They are mad dogs.
