Jacob Amir: Palestinians brought problems on themselves A letter to the editor 12/07/2007 10:07 am
Dear Editor: The authors of the column "Jews need to speak out on abuse of Palestinians" blame Israel for the difficulties facing the residents of Gaza.
One wonders if the authors can imagine what would have happened if, immediately after Israel left the Gaza Strip, all terror activity from there ceased. Which means no rocket launching, no weapons smuggling, no efforts to bomb the border crossing points, no efforts to send suicide murderers into Israel.
Then all the crossing points would have remained open, there would have been free merchandise exchange, thousands of Gazans would have been able to work in Israel, and it would have been possible to travel between the West Bank and Gaza. The Gazan economy would have been much stronger, and the daily life of the citizens would have been much better.
The authors do not tell us that the Palestinians chose to continue with their war of terror. As a result they brought nothing but disaster on their people. They infiltrated into Israel, killing two soldiers and abducting a third. In the last two years, since Israel left the Gaza Strip to the last inch, more than 2,000 Kasam rockets have been fired at Israeli villages and towns.
Like any other country Israel will do its best to protect its citizens.

WHO started the 67 war????
Funny I’ve seen maps dated in the 1800’s that clearly called the land Palestine... I’d post one if I knew how..
I don’t wonder because Arafat had all that and more and flushed it all away. Made Bubba look like a fool. No that he and halfbright needed any help!
Cute...how about I take $100, give you back $25 and ask that if you simply quit breaking everything in sight, I’ll agree to give you $25 back, then $25 more and so on... perhaps not only with interest, but even make you a partner so you can make thousands, and your response is you murder my mother in a cafe.
Just pawns in a much bigger game...only these are Israeli lives. Maybe someday the world will understand 2,000 Qassams( flying garbage cans) were already fired when the IDF & IAF comes in and hopefully cleans house, but I bet the timelines , the BS from the UN and the “unnecessary Israeli agression” baloney from all sides will be the judge and jury the Israel is horrible mass murderers on the scale of Hitler....funny thing is, the Arabs love Adolf and Mein Kampf is still a best seller over there. Oh the hyocrisy, argh!
Yes, Palestine is an area, not a culture or a people though. Basically what is now Israel prior to 1948 was a desolate wasteland, only when the Jews got their homeland back after having it stolen from them for thousands of years, did it become an area of contention. Israelis made it what it is today.
Israel defended itself in 1967. Arab armies massed themselves all along Israel’s borders, mobilized their Air Forces, tank divisions, etc. Israel struck before they could annihilate Israel essentially.
Outmanned, fiughting with fewer tanks, French jets...but superior tactics.
Thanks for the link! The maps pretty much show what that bunch of british thieves were up to.
The Sykes-Picot Agreement in 1916 coupled with the Balfour Declaration of 1917 established "Palestine", mandated to Great Britain. (http://www.masada2000.org/historical.html) You might want to read all about muhammad at that same site. The author has his facts prety much spot on.

If after 40 years you are still expecting $100, you need to see a psychologist for an obsessive-compulsive disorder.
And yes, after forty years, if I actually did get some money back, I’d be pretty happy. Since I would have long since written the whole thing off as a bad idea.
You were next door then you moved into my garage.
He had all that and less. The West Bank under Oslo looked like swiss cheese -- Indonesia without the water. Who would consider that a serious offer?
What a joke!
They also show there was a "Palestine", contrary to your assertion.
A joke is that he would even get an offer AT ALL! He’s demonstrated innumerable times he wasn’t interested in peace but the destruction of Israel.
The Israelis have demonstrated time and time again that they’ve been willing to compromise, at the very least negotiate, while they’ve gotten death and murder in return:
The details were not disclosed formally, but according to media reports Barak’s offer included:
Israeli redeployment from 95% of the West Bank and 100% of the Gaza Strip
The creation of a Palestinian state in the areas of Israeli withdrawal
The removal of isolated settlements and transfer of the land to Palestinian control
Other Israeli land exchanged for West Bank settlements remaining under Israeli control
Palestinian control over East Jerusalem, including most of the Old City
“Religious Sovereignty” over the Temple Mount, replacing Israeli sovereignty in effect since 1967
In return Arafat had to declare the “end of conflict” and agree that no further claims on Israel could be made in the future. Despite the considerable concessions by Israel, Arafat chose not to negotiate, not to make a counter-offer but to just walk out. This was typical of the Palestinian leader’s style: offer nothing, just say no and wait for more concessions. In fact, the Palestinian negotiating team did make concessions during the negotiating process, but Arafat himself never agreed. It was not the specific terms that caused the summit to collapse, but rather the lack of a counterproposal. In addition, Arafat continued to insist on the Palestinian demand for a “right of return” of refugees to Israel, a demand that Israel cannot accept under any peace plan since it would mean the end of Israel as a Jewish state.
A joke indeed!

That’s simply not true. While Jews were moving into “Palestine” in the early part of the 20th century, so too were arabs. IN FACT by 1948, there were TWICE as many arabs as Jews. 1.3 million to 650,000.
Why 95%? Why not 100%?
Yep, if they had only elected that woman who ran against Arafat.
Why anything at all? It’s not like it’s some secret that 100% wouldn’t have been enough.
How do you “negotiate” with someone that clearly wants you dead and destroyed?
Which is even worse.
The U.N. created Israel in 1948 and the arabs attacked them. Several times over the next several decades, losing each and every time.
War is war, except in Israel’s case, it’s the only modern winner of multiple wars in modern history that gives back lands won.
Over and over and over again.
Didn't Jordan want Israel dead and destroyed? Didn't Egypt want Israel dead and destroyed?
I'll ask again. Why 95%? Why not 5% more?
