Eisenhower led a motorized Army crosscountry trek through darkest America as he demonstrated the need for improved roads, which led to the Interstate system. His convoy made 6 mph in some stretches.

Some of the currently roadways Interstates included today don’t much better than that at times. There are locations that need new roadways today to handle current traffic much less the increases that are expected.

Perhaps he shouldn't have taken the Army crosscountry wasting tax dollars then. The market would have eventually created larger highway systems on its own as industry grew. But then I guess if the interstate highway system hadn't been built by the government we wouldn't have been able to prevent the invasion big government scaremongers predicted would come in their argument for more 'internal improvements' (i.e. the national highway system).

Oh wait that invasion didn't come did it? Hmmmmm....scare the public...public gets behind project...lobbyists for program get rich....nah that wouldn't happen. I trust our government. 'Specially if it's a Republican doing it to us....
