WASHINGTON The Senate Intelligence Committee has begun an investigation into the destruction of CIA tapes made during the interrogation of two terror suspects.
The CIA said Thursday it destroyed the tapes because of concerns that its agents could be put at risk.
Democrats on Friday also made loud calls for the new Justice Department chief, Attorney General Michael Mukasey, to look into whether the CIA violated any laws by tossing the tapes, which reportedly featured interrogators using harsh methods.
It is not known if the tapes showed interrogators using the method known as waterboarding, which is widely believed to be a form of torture.
The CIA acknowledged Thursday that it had destroyed the interrogation tapes. One is of an unnamed alleged terrorist, and one was of Abu Zubaydah who under questioning gave up information leading to the capture of alleged Sept. 11 conspirator Ramzi Binalshibh, a fact disclosed by President Bush last year.
In the hours before The New York Times was set to publish a story regarding the tapes' destruction, CIA Director Michael Hayden told agency employees Thursday that the agency destroyed the tapes in 2005 they were made in 2002 because keeping them "posed a security risk." The revelation reverberated around Washington.

Oh, did they finish the investigation of Sandy Burgler
and the destruction of National Archive Docs.

I guess the Rats haven’t figured it out yet, President Bush can’t run again.
The tapes were very secret, known only to a trusted few in the CIA, and my guess is the leak came from congress. Rockefeller would be a good guess. At first he said he knew nothing about the tapes destruction and no records of the meeting but a little while ago Fox News reported that Rockefeller’s aide actually went to a meeting where that was disclosed.
I hope they destroy more tapes. Maybe next time they’ll destroy the records of destroying the tapes.
To destroy the records of destroying the tapes would consist of knocking someone off.

Why not identify the agents. The worst that can happen is they will get a fatwa and eventually be killed. I wonder if the Democrats think of that, or is BSD all consuming. I am begging to see they are consumed with hate.

The dhims are always outraged about something. Come to think of it, so are the muzzies. Hmmm...

[They hate Bush more than they love this country.]
That doesn’t take much hate since they have so little love for this country. Besides, most of them are traitors.

President Bush brought a lot of this stuff on himself for keeping Tenet around as long as he did. Tenet fostered this culture within the agency that allowed for these leaks to carry over into politics.
That's not a good comparison. It would be more accurate to say that they hate Bush more than they hate this country.
That New Tone will get you every time.
