An attack was not in their minds. On Dec. 6, my great-aunt joined her Navy pilot husband in Honolulu. On Dec. 7, she woke up and said, “R.M., they’re bombing the base.”
“It’s just a training run,” he said. Then he looked out the window, and she didn’t see him for three days.
God bless those Pearl Harbor vets still with us, and may we never, never forget the lesson we should have learned then.
