Don’t worry Fred will make it right, maybe.

But on immigration, Mr. Thompson had several votes where he bucked the pack — and seemed to favor illegal aliens.

The most stark example was his 1995 vote on the welfare overhaul, when he voted to preserve illegal aliens’ ability to receive federal benefits. He was one of just six senators to vote that way, joining four other Republicans and one Democrat.

And in 1996, as Congress considered a crackdown on illegal aliens, Mr. Thompson voted against setting up a system so employers could verify the legal status of their workers.

Why does a thread on a Romney gaff predicate an assualt on Fred?

Would it be fair for me the next time there's a negative thread on Fred to point out that Mitt wears secret underwear and expects his own planet after he dies? No it wouldn't, so I'm not going to do that.

But WHY did he vote that way? The RATS frequently attach bad riders to good bills, might that have been the case? Did they intend to create a whole new government department when they set up the "system", for instance?

“With these 11 million people [here illegally], let’s have them registered, know who they are....those that are here paying taxes and not taking government benefits should begin a process towards application for citizenship.” Lowell Sun, 3/30/06 "For about eight years, Rosales said, he worked on and off landscaping the grounds at Romney's home, occasionally getting a "buenos dias" from Romney or a drink of water from his wife, Ann." ============================================================ Image and video hosting by TinyPic
