I hate to nitpick, but isn't it the people barging in on the bears?
The bears are barging into people’s homes.
Indian Reservations do not have this ‘barging’ problem.
The elimination of hunting seasons and traditional hunting practices have allowed the growth of bear populations beyond historical numbers.
The larger male bears drive out the younger / smaller bears from the wilder areas who then break into homes.
You would be surprised how few unarmed humans rush up to a bear...although they do exist. For a short time.
I’ve hiked in bear country, and it usually isn’t a problem. I’m more worried about the weird people I might run into than the bears.
That said, I also knew a wildlife biologist who was mauled by a bear - they can surprise you. As he topped a ridge line, two bear cubs ran past him, and Momma wasn’t amused.
