Worcester Wreath Company of Harrington has for 15 years been donating wreaths and decorating the graves of 4,500 veterans buried at Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia.
This year's convoy from Maine to Virginia is slated to be the biggest, with between 50 and 300 vehicles joining along various sections of the route.
On Sunday, Dec. 9, more than 10,000 donated Christmas wreaths will make their way down Route 1 from Harrington. Rockland Police Officer John Bagley will be escorting the convoy from Harrington through to South Portland.
And as the wreath-loaded tractor trailer passes through Rockport Sunday, the Rockland Fire Department will wait at the town line and then escort the convoy through the city where it will make a stop at the Rockland Legion Hall before continuing south.
Each year the parade of wreaths is escorted 750 miles, through 196 communities, by the Patriot Guard Riders and Civil Air Patrol on their trek to Arlington National Cemetery, where the wreaths make their eventual home adorning the graves of veterans.
I got the heads up on this story from my daughter...
This tiny business in this tiny town - less than 900 - in the poorest County way up in nothern Maine, donates these wreaths every year for the graves at Arlington = the process of getting them there is quite a story too - the 'caravan' will be heading out this Sunday.
Wouldn't it be nice to see this on the MSM TV - maybe we could get FOX to cover it =
Kudos to The owner, Merrill Worcester, who not only provides the wreaths, but covers the trucking expense as well. He's done this since 1992. A wonderful guy. Also, most years, groups of Maine school kids combine an educational trip to DC with this to help out.
I’d love to be involved in the convoy. Maybe when I could save up enough to get a car for that long, I’ll make a vacation of it.
Sitting on the beach in Puerto Rico is nice and all, but you get that warm, fuzzy feel-good feeling when you do something like this. A feeling like that can’t be beaten.
The Maine Patriot Guard will be escorting this truck as it begins this trek on Sunday..
I’m so happy that I will be a part of it!
Thanks for posting this!
FRee Regards..

Good on you Mrs B!
What an incredible story of a very patriotic company! I’m going to look them up and see if I can send some business their way. Don’t you love the Patriot Riders?
Thanks so much!
