Why should he have left it out? He is entitled to his opinion on Mormonism, just like anyone else. He is giving his opinion on politics in that quote. If the candidate of his choice were Mormon, he wouldn't question it. Who is Fr. Morris's candidate of choice for President next year? That is the pertinent question.
