It was a good speech, better than expected, but the reality is, Mitt Romney didn’t want to have to deliver it. He had to. So let’s go straight to what Mitt was really thinking as he spoke yesterday at the George H.W. Bush Presidential Library at Texas A&M.
Thank you, Mr. President, and as I reflect on what has brought me to College Station this morning, I think back to your 1988 race for president. I recall, in particular, the end of the campaign, and the famous “Saturday Night Live” skit about a party supposedly attended by both candidates, you and Mike Dukakis.
As I recall, the actor playing you does something stupid, and the Mike Dukakis impersonator, Jon Lovitz, turns full to the camera and says, deadpan:
“I can’t believe I’m losing to this guy.”

It was an excellent speech.
But people of faith should not have to constantly state that their church will not run the government or that we all have a right to freedom of religious expression in public.
Those should be constants.

When you can’t ridicule someone for what they said, just make up what they were “thinking”.
