An honest read of the report tells us that they “suspended” NOTHING! At best, they simply moved nuclear proliferation operations from military installations to civilian installations and in so doing, operate under cover of “civilian” interests while accelerating the program from a predicted 2015 capability to a 2009 capability...
How insane is all of this BS?
ALL true!
They have such a good record, why wouldn’t we trust this new report?
"The world has put Iran on notice that it must stop pursuing nuclear weapons."John Bolton, 6/2003
Great column. Thanks for posting it.
I remember that you made the same point on another thread, three days ago, and it's a GREAT point.
Actually the 2005 NIE also said that Iran could possible have nukes by the end of the decade at the earliest. If you compare the dates in the two assessments, they are pretty much unchanged.
However it is also clear that the main limiting factor is attaining enough enriched uranium, and Iran keeps saying that they intend to continue to ramp up their enrichment capacity.
At the rate they are going, it is highly likely that our next President will face a nuclear equipped Iran sometime near the end of their first term. If they don't have it by then, they will be very close, and we won't be able to tell with a reasonable level of certainty that they don't have them.
I think he's deep undercover on this one!
Who or what are the sources cited by IC? How do we know they are telling the truth? If they are members of the Iranian regime, have their so-called bona fides been established? Are they in a position to know what they claim to know? Do they have any motives to lie, or distort the truth? We should be mindful of all of these questions and more.
Here is another stupid mish-mash from our IC:
So, is the IC then assuming that Irans "declared civil work" is necessarily benign?
Iranian entities are continuing to develop a range of technical capabilities that could be applied to producing nuclear weapons, if a decision is made to do so. For example, Irans civilian uranium enrichment program is continuing. We also assess with high confidence that since fall 2003, Iran has been conducting research and development projects with commercial and conventional military applications--some of which would also be of limited use for nuclear weapons.

My conclusion:
This mish-mash is a personal political agenda to prevent President Bush from taking out Iran and quieting down the ME for years to come. The profound effect of taking out Iran is sealing our victory in Iraq and the immediate noticeable effect on the ME in particular and the WoR in general.
That's something couldn't be allowed, at any cost, by the DUmbos, defeatists, traitors, MSM and the far-left. In all, the notion of the DUmbos losing the '08 election is in the balance and their operatives are besting themselves in usurping the CIC powers and earning the labels above under one title; the Democrat Party.
If I were President Bush, I would take Iran out and in my announcement to the nation I would end the speech by telling the DUmbos :
To the other side of the eisle, contrary to the popular belief that I care about my legacy to the extent that I would barter it for jeopardizing the national security of the US, I did not and will not. Now, start your little payback and impeach. Go ahead; make my day.
Wasn’t Valerie Plame employed by the CIA’s nuclear non-proliferation group? If so, that would further reduce the credibility of the NIE.
During the 1930s and 1940s the State Department was filled with communists and communist sympathizers. Today is is filled with lefties, draft dodgers and Democrats. This NIE isn’t worth the paper it is written on.
I am very suspicious of this assessment. I would be less suspicious if Iran had stopped advocating the destruction of Israel and the United States.
Welcome!
Amen!
