Personally, I think the administration wants to believe it because it gives them a convenient exit from the confrontation with Iran. There’s a lot of speculation on many threads here today as to why that may be but no one I’ve read here seriously believes the report.
Bush just today said that Iran remains a threat, and is increasingly dangerous and all options are on the table.
Israel and UK also stressed that they don’t change their attitude towards the Iranian nuke issue.
