McCain Slams CNN Over Gay General

Presidential hopeful John McCain lambasted CNN for allowing a gay retired general allied with the Hillary Clinton campaign to question candidates during Wednesday’s Republican debate.

“I think that should have been made public if this individual was a member of another — any other campaign, then people would, obviously, have a better way of judging the quality of the question,” an angry McCain declared on Thursday.

During the debate televised by CNN, retired Gen. Keith Kerr — a national co-chair for a Clinton veterans group — asked the GOP candidates: “Why do you think that American men and women in uniform are not professional enough to serve with gays and lesbians?”

Candidates McCain, Mike Huckabee, Mitt Romney, and Duncan Hunter were asked to respond, and the four said they basically support the military’s “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy on gays.

Kerr’s links to the Clinton campaign were not mentioned during the debate.

“I think that should have been revealed,” McCain said in remarks reported by the New York Post.

CNN vice president and executive producer David Bohrman apologized for the foul-up, saying: “CNN would not have used the general’s question had we known that he was connected to any presidential candidate.”

And the guy isn’t a retired General. He’s retired from the California National Guard where he spent 30+ years. He discharged from the Army as a Lieutenant. His retired rank from the CNG was as a Colonel. The Brigadier General rank was awarded honorarily by California. He’s a sham.

John should go down there and kick some asses. He would climb a good 20 points in the polls.

Thanks for the giggle, darkwing 104 — I always love that graphic. You would think CNN might try to show a little sincerity by telling us which research/production assistant got sent down the road for this gaffe — at least CBS was able to find some scapegoats to sacrifice.

Good job Johnny CFR. Now what's your opinion of the Hillary/Hsu connection. Don't go "crickets chirping" on us.

The guy’s a complete phony.

Yep. He was never in a theater of war. Most of his career was in the CNG, and He's not even a General (he can't carry the rank of General beyond California's borders). A complete fraud. And this is a guy the Clintoon campaign, with CNN collusion, uses to press an agenda. Disgusting!

Especially since he misrepresented himself entirely. The guy retired from the reserve as a Colonel, not a general. On active duty, his highest rank was a 1st Louie.

The Genral rank was a California appointment, and, as I understand it, was really more of an honorary thing then anything else.

CNN knew who this guy was, they put him there (flying him in at their expense) as a pure wringer, and did so knowingly, and they should be investigated and prosecuted (IMHO) for an abject attempt to subvert the voting process through fraudulent means.

I'd be careful on that. He was active duty for awhile. There's no indication of malfeasance in rank. That title really doesn't fit in this case. He simply misrepresented himself (bigtime!).

Plus, Gay Anderson Cooper greeted the General with “Glad to see you AGAIN, General”!

All those questioners were SUPPOSED to be undecided Republicans.

A caller to Rush’s show yesterday, a FReeper with a blog actually, whose YouTube question was selected for the debate witnessed a familiar exchange between Anderson Cooper and General Widestance on a van going to the debate. They knew each other. This could be a huge!

Not to mention General WideStance is not a US Army General Ret as CNN said. He’s a retired Colonel who received his Star as an honorary retirement gift from the California National Guard...which is not recognized by the Army. Ya think CNN didn’t know that either?

Here’s the thing about McCain. He’s bad most of the time, but occasionally he does something very good.

I will never support him — and his Bill Of Rights For Terrorists and his No Free Speech For Americans — but I have to admit, he’s right on this issue.
