About $300 million was spent on fancy new voting machines, and maybe they couldn’t be hacked. Hugo may have thought he would win easily, and didn’t need to cheat.

That would explain the comment at the linked website that results had been promised by 7:00 PM (because of the new whizbang voting machines) but at 11:45 PM none had been announced.

The vote must not have gone the way Chavez wanted it, otherwise the results would have been announced immediately.
