Well it isn’t working then, and I will point out to you that the more you fanatics* or other candidates resort to attack against Huckabee, you just push moral conservatives more solidly into his camp.
From Rasmussent today:
“Rudy Giuliani continues to lead nationwide with 22% support, but his lead is shrinking. Surging Mike Huckabee now attracts 17% of Likely Republican Primary Voters nationwide. Fred Thompson and John McCain each earn 14% while Mitt Romney is close behind at 11%. Ron Paul attracts 6% of Likely Republican Primary voters nationwide and no other Republican candidate reaches 2%.”
*I don’t have any problem with someone supporting another candidate. It took me a long time to finally settle on Huckabee. However, I’m not fanatical in my support of him and can see his weaknesses and faults. There are other fine candidates like Thompson and Hunter that I would gladly vote for in a general election - but their supporters are becoming so entrenched that they can’t deal with the possibility that their guy(s) might not get the nomination and will stoop to doing or saying anything (even distortions and outright lies) to attempt to get that person elected. Kamakazee tactics.
ANY OPEN BORDERS CANDIDATE THIS TIME AROUND WILL FINISH OFF THE USA. No sale!
You keep using the term "moral conservatives" in these threads. Do you mean so-called "values voters" or "social conservatives" or what? Do you really think that once these voters hear about Mike "Open Borders for Jesus" Huckabee's immigration, amnesty and tax-hike record they'll love him even more?! Is that your contention?! Based on what?
“Kamikaze tactics”
It is neither fanatacism nor Kamikaze tactics to scrutinize the record of a candidate who has thus far had virtually zero scrutiny and who is liberal on so many issues that are essential to victory favor a GOP candidate. Further, he is being pushed by the MSM elites, which is a huge red flag for conservatives. Reagan never got the velvet glove treatment from the drive-by media only the “back of the hand” treatment. That in itself is an indication of a candidate’s conservative bona fides.
That said, I take back what I said last tonight about Huckabee being principled (although wrong) in his stand in favor of free taxpayer funded tuition for illegals, since he is now waffling on it. His friend Dick Morris must have polled this and showed that he is going to take a major hit on this. I could have told him that without the poll. Waffling on it ain’t gonna work. He has already said “My soul won’t let me do it.” Has his soul had a change of heart? Believe me, the voters in this poll (DM and Ras) are gonna have a change of heart about Huck too.
So the rest of us aren’t “moral conservatives” if we don’t support the lying Huckabee?
Nice.
Why is reporting on his comments an ‘attack’?
By your approach, no candidate could oppose any other candidate’s positions.
What is anyone saying about Huckabee that isn’t the truth ?
In his own words from his time as governor he’s supported in-state tuition for illegal aliens, higher taxes, anti-smoking laws, expansion of SCHIP and so on.
Why is anyone pointing that out a problem for you ?
He’s not even consistent on abortion.
