Prominent Sheik Hosts Reconciliation Meeting
Multi-National Force - Iraq ^

CAMP STRIKER — One of the most prominent sheiks in southern Baghdad recently hosted a high-level reconciliation conference at his home.

Sheik Khalif Haloos invited Sunni and Shia sheiks, Iraqi government officials and military leaders to his personal residence in Sadr al-Yusufiyah.

Haloos asked the 1st Battalion, 187th Infantry Regiment from the 3rd Brigade, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) to support this meeting by providing assistance with security. Approximately 2,000 tribal and sub-tribal sheiks and members were invited to discuss their solidarity to rid their areas of insurgents, establish essential services and to establish a plan for future prosperity.

The event was attended by approximately 500 sheiks, of which 65 were senior-level tribal leaders. All attendees signed an agreement putting aside differences in religious sects for the good of the region.

In addition, the signed agreement came with a provision recognizing that the Americans are here to help them improve their quality of life with essential services and security and it is the insurgency and al-Qaida that is hampering growth in their region.

Thanks SandRat. It’s amazing to see the Iraqi’s out ahead of their government and making real progress. It’s like America, the folks get it, the government doesn’t.

Regards

Senator Webb was on Meet the Depressed this am. His talking points still include that the surge is not working because the purpose of the surge was to provide the breathing room for political reconciliation to occur.

The Shieks of Anbar are proving him wrong.

He also said that we are in danger of having another Afghanistan because it was our support in Afghanistan that gave rise to Osama Bin Laden.

It was our support of Afghanistan against the Russians, and then deliberate neglect during the Clinton Administration that allowed the rise of OBL.

Of course he knows this, but he can’t say this for moonbat pressure.

Uh, don’t drink your own koolaid.

I think that you believe that the USA can prevent every bad thing from happening anywhere in the world. Well, we can prevent lots of it, but quite frankly, our power has limits (and that’s a good thing).

I suppose you never heard of Jamie Gorelick's wall memo, or maybe you think that Sandy Burglar just made a sloppy mistake in the National Archives. Clinton ignored the declaration of jihad, and refused to take out Osama when he had the chance. Historical facts.

You accuse me of kool aid drinking when I sip ambrosia and you are drunk of whine.
