Tastes like chicken?
Wolves kill dogs everyday during winter in Alaska. Their numbers here in the interior have exploded. We need bounties back in existence or our moose will soon be gone. I see a wolf every couple weeks so far this winter. May be because caribou are moving thru. I did shoot at one in late sept from my boat on the Yukon but hard hitting anything with crosshairs swinging all over, (when you go to shoot from boat, nobody sits still you know).
Yesterday a buddy and I ran down the winter closed road outta where we live about 45 miles on snowmachines. Soon as we dropped off Summit, temps bottomed right out; from around zero to minus 25-30. We stopped at this once spot where caribou often cross and had to build a fire to warm up before ride back home; man did it seem cold, just not used to it yet this year I guess.
Anyway, right before dusk, my buddy looks 400 yards down the road and sez, look here come a single bou walkin down road toward us. It wasn’t a caribou but a dang wolf. I grabbed my rifle and leaned down on metal sled I pull with snowmachine. He must heard my gun hit the sled, cause that second he went sideways on road then jumped back into the brush off the road; another 2 seconds and I’d had him.
So, I don’t know if I was lucky to see him; or unlucky to not get off shot, ha ha. All I know for sure is I wish there were alot less wolves around where we live as they are really working the moose over bad.
