The Canadian Islamic Congress has filed human rights complaints against Macleans magazine for publishing an excerpt from Mark Steyns book America Alone, which the CIC labels not just Islamophobic, but flagrantly Islamophobic: Canadian Islamic Congress launches human rights complaints against Macleans.
Complaints were submitted to Human Rights Commissions in B.C. and Ontario on the grounds that the article subjects Canadian Muslims to hatred and contempt, according to a CIC press release. In the release, the CIC labels Steyns article as flagrantly Islamophobic.
Faisal Joseph is the CICs legal counsel on the matter. In Canada, we have 750,000 law-abiding Muslims, he says. When you read that article, it sounds to some people [like] theres an attack from the Muslim world against the non-Muslim world. We take real issue with that type of characterization and the implications of it.
In response, a Macleans spokesperson provided the following statement: Mark Steyn is a thoughtful and experienced journalist, and the piece was a commentary on important global political issues. It was not in any sense Islamophobic, and Macleans is confident that the Human Rights Commissions will find no merit in the complaints.
To call Islam a “religion” of peace is stupid. First Isalm is not simply a religion its a way of life. To be truly “Muslim” you cannot be a member of another group or citizen of a country that does not subscribe to Sharia law. For instance take the group CAIR—Counsil on American Islamic Relations. The groups name implies that there is a difference between being Islamic and being american. These people are dangerous and need to be stopped.
Good Idea
You confused me a bit by quoting back to a Dec 01, 2007 article. I believe some failed lawsuits have disarmed islamic Judicial Terrorist efforts.
Well worth another read.

Translation: Steyn's being accused of "flagrant, politically incorrect truth-telling."
Not a chance of that happening.
Interesting analysis!!!
I like it!!!
Thanks for the ping!
Will be here soon.
Recent history proves that the so called peaceful Muslims work as a team with their Islamic Military. They immigrate to a country touting what peaceful law abiding citizens they are, establish themselves, build mosques, increase their numbers and bingo terrorists acts start occurring in the host country. Do the attacks in Spain, England, France, Thailand, Bali, the Philippines, Holland, Sweden and the USA ring any bells here? All these attacks have been preceded by the establishment of moderate mosque communities which in turn became footholds from which the Islamic military could launch their terrorist attacks. The larger the percentage of Muslims that occupy a country the greater the havoc they wreak. The situation is directly proportional. Reducing the percentage of Muslims that dwell in the host country is the most effect way of stopping terrorism. Western governments must evaluate this fact very seriously if they wish to win the war against Islamofascism long term.
If people want on or off this list, please let me know.
The term Islamofascism is redundant. Islam is inherently fascist.
Same bunch? If so, here's hoping there's such a thing as discovery involved. It'd be a hoot.
At that time of my posting the calibre of Mark Steyn, though fairly well established, had not been really tested. That is to say the dreaded Human Rights Cabal had not yet brought up the heavy guns. We now know. I watched an excellent coup as of it's self, a program called The Agenda.
Steve Paikin interviewed Mark. He was made aware ( Paikin was not going to be compromised by the usual MSM tricks), he told Mark that three muslim lawyer students were in an adjacent room listening. Mark challenged them on his article in MacClean's Magazine to face him. They finally joined him.
I had handed a valiant American campaigner(Steve Emerson) who decries the fallacy of "moderate Islam"- an old London compliment. I now hand Mark with this compliment.
He is the gold.
my fondest dream
Sorry Peter, I posted yesteday without looking at the article date. But yep, Mark and Steve have proven themselves by any measure.
Salaam, yall.
And a great big Wa alaykum as-salaam back atcha. I bet a smidge of bacon grease in the cannelure of a 5.56 projectile would make an AR-15 much more aromatic. Direct pork-vapor impingement, y'know. :-)
I'm feeling an urge to "put the band back together", so to speak. We'll have to give Sobieski and Tepes a call and find out if they're up for a "greatest hits" tour...
Mr. Steyn is to be commended for making such enemies!
