OAKDALE, Minn. (WCCO) An Oakdale family and their neighbors fear for their safety after two car bombs went off on the same day. They exploded in the driveway on the 2700 block of Grenada Avenue.
Police are now asking for your help to find out who's behind this.
"I was just waking up in the middle of the night with an earth shattering bang and it was definitely an explosion," said the victim's neighbor Stacie Demer.
Demer and her family were asleep in the early morning hours when a bomb went off in their neighbors driveway.
"It was incredibly strong. It was like you could almost feel the foundation of our house shake," said Demer.
"Officers checked out the scene and they were unable to locate the source of the noise," said Oakdale Police Officer Michelle Stark.
When the sun rose in the morning, 22-year-old Matt Haase's car was severely damaged, so he called police.
"They processed the scene and determined it was an improvised explosive device," said Stark.
Later that night there was a second explosion. Demer's husband caught the aftermath on tape.
"You can see the glass shattered off the back of the car," she said.
The second bomb caused even more damage, blowing a hole right through the roof.
The homeowner, Daryl Haase, said the explosion was so big it actually blew debris through the siding of his garage.
Daryl Haase suspects his son's new girlfriend's ex-boyfriend is responsible for the damage and for terrifying the family. Neighbors said they are equally scared.
"I didn't want my kids to go in the backyard and play because our backyard is kitty-corner to where it was going on," said Demer.
Police are still following leads but they say no suspects stand out right now.
Nearly a month after the bombs shattered the quiet of their suburban neighborhood, residents fear for their safety until someone is caught.
"I think about it nightly because that's when the explosions have taken place," said Demer. "It's got to be horrifying for the family too."
Oakdale Police may be offering a reward soon for anyone with information leading to the arrest of the person who's responsible for the car bombs.

So this is more an issue of someone trying to blow up a car rather than turn the car into a bomb, right?
it is those nasty french muzzies?
it is those nasty french muzzies? This sounds pretty personal. I'll bet it was a disgruntled "friend".
I predict more stuff like this is going to be in the news as time goes on.
I know back in grade school I had all sorts of plans to put a bomb in a bully’s mailbox and set it off in the middle of the night. Of course I never did - but it sure was fun to think about different ways to get back at him.
I think sometimes there is a very small boundary between our animal instincts of violent revenge and our civilized selves. Luckily most folks don’t cross that boundary.
I’m glad nobody got hurt. However, having it happen two times is pretty weird. You would think that even a kid would realize how dangerous it was after the first time?!
-let’s not forget that the mob used to blow up people in their cars. Been done before.
No; he realized how 'ineffective' the first attempt was, so went back a second time, with a bigger, improved model.
Either that achieved his goal; or he is saving up pennies for an even bigger bang, after the heat is off.
I think sometimes there is a very small boundary between our animal instincts of violent revenge and our civilized selves.Yeah. Human nature isn't always pretty. It's a wonder that we're as civilized as we are.
I can remember having many of the same fantasies. A moments misjudgment can cause a lifetime of pain.
-lets not forget that the mob used to blow up people in their cars. Been done before. We just didn't call it terrorism. There's not a lot that's new in the world.
I always think it’s a drug deal gone bad when I hear of things like this. Somebody kept somebody else’s money.
