House Appropriations Defense Subcommittee Chairman John Murtha (D-Pa.) has taken the unusual step of publicly clarifying his remark that the surge is working in Iraq.
Murtha, a former Marine and top adviser to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) on military matters, had often said previously that the surge is not working.
The clarification came after House Republicans circulated an article about Murthas comments written in Fridays edition of his home-state Pittsburgh Post-Gazette after a teleconference from Murthas Johnstown, Pa., office. In addition to saying that the surge is working, the Post-Gazette reported, Murtha called the Iraqi government dysfunctional and said, The thing that has to happen is the Iraqis have to do this themselves. We can't win it for them.
That put him in line with the current position of the House Democratic leadership that the extra troops have done a good job of reducing violence, but the Iraqi government has been squandering the opportunity.
This morning Murtha issued the following statement through his spokesman:
The military surge has created a window of opportunity for the Iraqi government. Unfortunately, the sacrifice of our troops has not been met by the Iraqi government and they have failed to capitalize on the political and diplomatic steps that the surge was designed to provide.
The fact remains that the war in Iraq cannot be won militarily, and that we must begin an orderly redeployment of U.S. forces from Iraq as soon as practicable.
The House of Representatives has passed a $50 billion funding bill that provides the president, our troops and our nation with a responsible plan for bringing our troops home. The president should heed the advice of the American people and allow this funding bill to become law.
Huh?
When did the Democrats admit to the surge reducing the violence? Heck, Murtha just got SPANKED by the Democrats for saying the surge was working. That's what this very article is about!
My gawud, that man is such a buffoon. I think the only Senators I hate worse than him are Kerry, and Kennedy, and Feinstein, and Schumer, and Levin, and Rangel, and Boxer, and Clinton, and Obama, and and and ... oh well, you guys get the picture.
>At least he didnt git rabbit in the blood. Boss P would have to put a set of chains on him to slow him down...<
*LOL!*
Byrd has to be up there on your list...
You got that right.
No, they got it right. He is no longer a Marine. Most of us wish he never was. He is the only person I know of that the phrase (Once a Marine, always a Marine, does NOT apply to.

Although Murtha rarely wanders far from his Party’s leftist leanings, here he demonstrates a good reason to never vote for a candidate outside one’s own Party.

He got his pee-pee whacked!
I guess Murtha had to be re-educated in the laws of Pelosi
Our Congress is dysfunctional, too
Good doggie murtha! That’s a good good doggie! Now here’s your treat!
Exactly. Another example of the left-Dem (as opposed to Lieberman-Truman Dem) “thinking process” whereby ALL facts contribute to a conclusion of “cut and run”:
1. The surge isn’t working! Further proof we must get out now!
2. The surge is working! But there isn’t full reconciliation politically! Therefore we must get out now!
3. Strawberry potato mushroom postcard! Therefore we must get out now!

Draft enlistee for 2 years?
Did Murtha have any visible injures when he “recanted” his confession?
With Murtha’s declaration, my brain visualizes the climatic scenes from the movie “Ben”.
