It is my ability to correlate facts and data that allow me to reach reasonable conclusions ... that's what makes me a Conservative. We can't convince over 70 million people who get some sort of government health care subsidy to give it up. Forget our present system. It's OVER! Within 5 years we will have a national health plan.

We need a system with co-pays, not 'free'. Also, if someone elects to seek treatment privately outside the Medicare Plan, fine, let them. No punishment to them or the provider. It's their money.

Because I have been self-employed for past 25 years, I have been battling our current system that long. It sucks! Allow me to buy in to Medicare, even if they pro-rate me due to age, I'd grab it in a heartbeat. Anything is better than private healthcare I can no longer afford.

What about the doctor who has run his private business for 25 years and can accept (has been accepting) Medicare for 5-8% of patients (considers it charity b/c what is reimbursed only is enough to cover overhead if that) and will go out of business if all patients are covered by the government/ by socialized medicine? What about the forgotten man (the taxpayer) who has to carry these Medicare patients on his/her back? He will watch his tax burden sky rocket so someone else can be covered by the government.

Again why would you want to cover everyone under a system that is not solvent; is projected to be bankrupt by 2019?

Socialized medicine (and that is what Medicare is) is not the answer. Personal responsibility is. It's funny how people love socialism when it is perceived to benefit them. It's funny how many would not choose to seek private insurance when the government is giving it away for "free". Under Medicare it's not their money, it's mine.

Most can afford private health care (it's insurance that is the problem), but that is not where their priorities are..shouldn't have to pay for health care (but can afford cable t.v., cell phones, new vehicles, dinners out etc...). Fine. Don't pay for it, but don't expect me to.
