I know some cops on the swat team. They had the option of pistol caliber sub guns and they seem to think there really is no difference in stopping power in an 11 or 14 inch bbl, and subsonic 5.56 mm ammo is less penetrative than a 9mm out of an MP-5.

First, the average SWAT team member knows next to nothing about ballistics.

Second, ask the guys coming home from Iraq about the 9mm. It doesn't work on crazy Jihadists. The .45 still stops lunatics in their tracks.

Third, ask the guys coming home from Iraq about the 5.56. They will also tell you it is too small of a round for effective combat.

PS: Remember, the 5.56 was the brainchild of Robert McNamara and bunch of over-educated elites that never shot a weapon in their life. It was a vanity project.
