Host Indicted, Clinton Fund-Raiser Canceled
Mary Jacoby reports on the presidential race.
A Dec. 15 fund-raising event for Hillary Clinton at the home of prominent Mississippi trial laywer Richard Dickie Scruggs is off, now that Scruggs has been indicted for bribery.
Bill Clinton was set to be the star attraction at the event at Scruggss Oxford, Miss., home. Hillary Clinton wasnt scheduled to attend. It was the first event that Scruggs, who made a fortune suing the tobacco industry in the 1990s, had offered to host for Clinton, a campaign spokesman said. It was canceled on Wednesday, after the Federal Bureau of Investigation raided his home and the federal indictment was announced.
Unlike Norman Hsu, the apparel executive who raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for the campaign before it was revealed hed been charged in California with fraud, Scruggs was not a Clinton bundler funneling donations from friends and associates, the campaign said.
Over the years, Scruggs has been a generous donor to Democrats, but hes also given money to Republican candidates. He gave $4,200 to Clintons Senate campaign in 2005 but hadnt made a donation yet to her presidential bid. Scruggss brother-in-law is Sen. Trent Lott (R., Miss.), who just announced his intention to leave the Senate before the end of the year.

Haley Barbour is one of the good people.
Candidates must hate it when their donors are indicted. Especially Hillary, so much money to return.
HA!
Mississippi ping!
Bwaaaaaahahaha...Another Democrat bites the dust.
Something kind of funny happened today. This morning, Don Barrett, one of the members of the Scruggs Katrina Group (a consortium of law firms representing Katrina plaintiffs) today sent a letter to the judge saying that the Scruggs firm was going to withdraw from representation and that he’d be taking over. This afternoon,Scruggs sent a letter to the judge saying that Barrett was wrong and that he would not withdraw unless the plaintiffs asked him to. Another fee fight is on the way.
I forgot to add a link for the information in my previous post. You can find that information and more at: http://www.nola.com/newsflash/louisiana/index.ssf?/base/news-35/1196371757133370.xml&storylist=louisiana
As long as candidates have to make whores of themselves to raise so much money there will always be large scale corruption.
my water bill is atrocious .... everytime I read ANYTHING about the Clintooons ..... I have the same reaction I had/have with Whacko Jacko .... ya yust gotz ta go takes a hot shower ... they all make my skin crawl.
What a grandiose bunch of slime
ughhhhhhh

I hate it when that happens.
"The investigation is ongoing, and that includes other cases the Scruggs Law Firm was or is still involved in."

The linked article discusses why the Scruggs indictment is not good for Mississipi Attorney General Jim (”Robin”) Hood.
Joey Langston from up this way is going to represent and speak for Scruggs...These thieves are as thick as molasses.
"I think there is a very good possibility that things may get more embarrassing for Hood," Rossmiller said. "I'm not implying that he's done anything wrong or crooked, but the lawsuits State Farm has going continue to bring out details that demand explanation from Hood."
Your nickname...Robin...might be a very good one.
I’ve been trying to pull up the firm’s website, but haven’t been able to yet.
From the little I’ve read, he seems to do very well for himself.
I question his taste in clients, though this one will be a cash cow.
The clintons are the ones who made the devil’s deal. The others can fall as they should.
I wouldn’t be surprised to learn that Lott’s resignation is related to this indictment.
Paging Dwight Ball - please pick up the white courtesy phone . . .
The hits just keep coming.
The Clintons have such wonderful friends and donors...
