video clip that was on his website. I can’t find it on the website now, but it is on youtube:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rYsCI4ODFcw

Then there is a 30 second commercial:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Q-FvCC_KHg

Fred says the laws are on the books for the fence, he says enforce the law, secure the border, it is a matter of national defense. When he says enforce the law, one of the laws he is talking about is the law for the border fence.

In other words, he gave the response that Duncan Hunter has been giving for 20 years now.

Excellent post ansell2

“People respect him and they know the handful of issues that he is dependable on, but they don’t see him as diverse and complex enough to take over the most wide ranging complex job on earth.”

Spot on.

So y’all don’t want any supporters who didn’t agree with DH five years ago to come over and change their minds. Do I get that right?

DH is not diverse enough for a national job. He’s a johnny come lately on entitlement reform. He may have given a simple statement on the subject, but he doesn’t have enough to say to seem serious about it. There are a lot of subjects that Hunter does not talk about that are important and need to be talked about. When is he going to get around to it?

You’re not helping DH with this idea of being so pure about the border fence that he never gets around to talking about anything else.

I like Hunter fine, but I’d like him better for something more limited than president [like SecDef or a congressional district]. He’s not ready for prime time [as president].

Perhaps, but at least someone listens to Thompson.

I am moving towards Fred. Kind of solidified last night. He sounded reasonable and logical and did not unnecessarily pander. He also showed some toughness against Romney and Rudy. In fact, he kick their rear in that commercial....I like that. Rudy....a little too cleaver. Romney....slickmeister. Huckabee.....too liberal. Hunter...good. Tancreado....good. McCANe.....pissed off. Ron Paul....right on some things, way off on others.

Fred won straight up.

The press really doesn’t like him. He’s too hard to control due to his popularity from Law and Order and Red October, etc. Being a Republican already makes him an enemy.

So you planted a news story. /s

I'm glad you wrote this LIPete.

I'm not the only one who thinks his response was a weird one. Sometimes you gotta wonder where they dream the things up that they say.

I started with Fred, slid toward Duncan, Duncan got no traction, so it’s time to come back to Fred....the only conservative in the race with a real chance.

If we do not make Fred Thompson our nominee, the Dems will celebrate all the way to the White House.

i could not agree more!

I have been pretty rabid against illegal aliens for at least 40 years since the time at age 17 that I refused to take over a job unless I got total control, so that I could get rid of the illegal alien crew.

Hunter is a Johnie come lately to the issue by my standards.

I must respectfully disagree with you here. You only hear Duncan Hunter talking about the border fence because he only gets 15 seconds camera time while the RINO's are getting 90% of it... No disrespect to Fred, but I think Duncan Hunter is ready for prime time, has the right ideas (except for his weekness on spending our money too much) and would be at the top of the heap if he got the exposure the others are getting.

I think the debates should be changed so a question is asked and each candidate gives their answer in turn, each taking a turn to go first. Then all would get equal camera time and everyone would see Duncan Hunter is the best candidate.

I would be happy to vote for Fred if Duncan doesn't get anywhere by election day, but no-one else I see is worthy. (except maybe Tancradeo but he's not doing any better than Duncan

That's my $0.02......

Fred Barnes is the biggest amnesty shill around.

FNC.."We Report and Y'all Can Go Take a Hike" should be their slogan. Is Brit Hume still in hiding??

I like Thompson best, but I have real concerns about him being another Bob Dole.

What are your alternatives? Romney? Giuliani? Hunter? Huckabee? McCain? Get real!

Bob Dole was a handsome old fart, but compared to Fred Thompson, had a relatively sedate personal career. Thompson went from being a dumb teen-age father to an hourly wage worker to a lawyer, to a prosecutor, to a pretty darned successful actor in about the most competitive profession you can even imagine.

Bob Dole. *rolls eyes*

I forgot “U.S. Senator” in Thompson’s gutsy and dynamic life.

Well said. Hunter has been in California too long to be an unknown to most conservatives in his own state, yet he is. He lacks the right stuff.

With Giuliani’s corruption and abuse of power being exposed, maybe the FNC people are realizing that a Rudy candicacy is untenable. If so, Rudy will be finished by the end of January.
