I grew up in the area and half my friends didn't know what their Dads did for a living. My brother had a best friend whose Dad was assasinated in South America.
It's not so much an obvious Spookville as it used to be, but there is still a big spook presence in the area.
If a swarm of FBI showed up in my neighborhood this morning, I'd think of national security before mere criminal behavior.

I live here. Was born (if you will) in Columbia and lived there all my life; still do again. Only moved to Connecticut for 2 years for a real job.

I live right near NSA. Up until last year, there was a "retail store" near my house that, well, NEVER had any customers - and was in a location that no sane retailer would EVER place a business. It was run by a former spook who "retired".
Yeah, sure.
Now it is a barbershop that nobody goes to. hmmm......
