"People who belittle Rudy vis-a-vis 9/11 also diminish those who were murdered that day. My husband lost a friend, and a friend of mine lost a son-in-law. Anti-Rudy know-nothings trying to turn people against him is one thing, but in the process they are spitting on the victims of that horrible day.”

I live in the City and did not particularly like Guiliani while he was Mayor. however, I have come to respect him for the leadership he demonstrated after 9-11, and give him credit for the fiscal responsibility that his administration demonsrated.

Governing NYC is like trying to herd cats. He worked hard at it and did as good a job as possible. The City was better in most respects after his adminstration.

On the other-hand, I don’t know if I can forgive him for not throwing his vigorous support behind Lazio after Rudy had to withdraw from the senate race against clinton.

I am still on the fence about Rudy, but he rose in my estimation as a result of tonight’s debate.

I don’t disagree with much in your post. I have no special “affection” for Rudy as he’s much too liberal on social issues for me. But I can’t deny he was stellar on crime and other issues in NYC as mayor, not even considering 9/11.
