One of our pilots paid $5.60/gal at International Falls, MN, yesterday.

I agree with the just good enough part. Quality is comprised of many factors. Materials, process, policies, and commitment. I don’t believe that the Chinese culture supports quality in the same way. Life is extremely cheap there.
IMHO, the major factor that chinese goods are cheaper is government regulations. There are very few there and boatloads here.

The LSA idea was a good one, but got totally screwed in the end.
Not much benefit in getting an LSA over a traditionally certified aircraft, except slightly lower new cost.

Call me a cynic, but when I saw the alphabet soup of which version of the old Luscombe's and T-Crafts could or could not meet the requirement, It really raised an eyebrow. And the good old "150" never made the list?
I could just see Jackie Mason doing a comedy routine about it, "if you got an 8e it's ok, but if it is an 8f your screwed." What is worse, some of these old birds belong in the junkyard period.
They should have went for relaxation in the medical requirements and streamlined STC process to keep the older fleet flying with upgrades that will not cost the developers a fortune to come up with.
Look the guys putting Chevy V8's in Seabee's and they are working like gangbusters, yet you have to re-register them Experimental and that turn them into a mutt to do it.
I am not for doing crazy stuff you get you hurt, but come on, we need advancement! These guys for one have shown it can be done and up to this point reliably.

The FAA seems to have done nothing anywhere.

I’ve seen people get in trouble for using Chinese hardware on certified aircraft.

It’s as if there’s just too much freedom involved and they hate it. I read a statement years ago from the FAA that they wanted to go to a more “European” model. Bureaucrats love to restrict other people for whatever reason.
What amazes me is there are so many folks on FR that worship government and get really offended when you say “irresponsible things” like you don’t trust them and they lie. I’ve actually seen a female FAA employee (ex-Army helicopter pilot) scream in someones face that she was going to pull his license until the pilot pulled the FAR book out and showed the insane woman that he was right. I thought her head was going to explode.
Here in the Midwest av gas costs run from a low of $4.00 up to $6.00 per gal.

I respectfully disagree. By taking the product back to the store and demanding a refund, you increase the cost of handling the product.
Voicing your displeasure and complaining about source is one thing, but actually costing the store money is the quickest and most effective way of dealing with the poisons being sent and sold here as foodstuffs.
The more of us who do so, the quicker the stores AND the Chinese death-merchants will understand we dislike their fraud. There is no more efficient way to get someone’s attention than to cost them money.
Yes, the same goes for Mexican produce.
It was kind of scary after 9/11 - there were some in the FAA that seemed to have sniffed blood in the water and were doing anything they could to discredit General Aviation, including dragging the FBI, etc., in and using them. It’s ironic that somebody who used to be a pilot is sitting in the White House and allowed that to happen.
It sort of solves the medical problem if you are smart enough not to get a medical. I did, got shot down in flames and am not trying to fix that.
On the other hand, what has happened is the FFA has taken a look at the illegal ultralights. Anything over weight, over fuel, over speed and with more than one seat is included in this which is well over 90% of he “ultralights” flying right now. They all have to be N numbered by 31 January 08. This means that you will have to have a LSA ticket and there are hardly any instructors. Things are going to get interesting.

Yikes, the tilapia is already thawed out and ready for the frying pan. Haven’t checked the origin yet but I can bet on where, because most of the fish in Sam’s Club comes from you know where. That said, so far so good. I’ll even go down and check the bag standby...BINGO! Farm raised CHINA. Darn, that’s our favorite fish besides Salmon and shrimp.
Haven’t quite killed gun manufacturers yet, but they are working on it. For that matter how about tobacco companies, how about any company regardless of what they make, if lawyers decide to go after it.
